Klitschko-Johnson prediction: Look for Vitali’s face to get mangled

vit43232By Dave Lahr: With the bout between World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (38-2, 37 KO’s) and challenger Kevin Johnson (22-0-1, 9 KO’s) at the PostFinance Arena, in Berne, Switzerland, I think we’re about to see the 38-year-old Vitali get old tonight and lose. It’s bound to happen sooner or later, because Vitali is starting to look old and gray on top.

Haye: “It’s unlikely that I’ll even watch it” [the Klitschko-Johnson fight]

By Scott Gilfoid: WBA heavyweight champion David Haye sounds a little jealous of the attention surrounding World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko’s bout against Kevin Johnson on Saturday, saying to the Daily Telegraph “It’s one of the weakest fights of recent times. It’s unlikely that I’ll even watch it.” It might be bout that could turn out to be a huge mismatch, but my guess is Haye will be sitting and watching the fight with great interest tomorrow night.

Klitschko vs. Johnson: Kevin looking to outbox Vitali on Saturday

vit464Photo credit: Juan Carlos Manzano – By Dave Lahr: This Saturday’s bout between World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (38-2, 37 KO’s) and challenger Kevin Johnson (22-0-1, 9 KO’s) pits two fighters with completely different styles of fighting. Vitali, now 38, has been known as something of a brute force in the ring during most of his career. He can box at times, but most of his fights tend to result with Klitschko slugging his much smaller and slower opponents into submission.

Klitschko-Johnson: Tough one to call

vit4By Peter Wells: Vital Klitschko 38-2(37) defends his WBC Heavyweight title for the 3rd time since his return to the ring, against Kevin Johnson 22-0-1(9). The American has a big task ahead of him and this will be his first big test. He may be 30 but hit his peak in his last fight earlier in May by knocking out also unbeaten Devin Vargas. Until then he hadn’t took anyone on of any note, and will need a big performance in Switzerland on 12th December. He’s never been in a 12 rounder although has gone the full 10 rounds 5 times in his career, and hasn’t been known as much of a puncher.

Klitschko-Johnson: Look for Kevin to pull off an upset

vitali78328By Dave Lahr: On paper, the match-up between World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko and challenger Kevin Johnson looks like a mismatch in favor of the 38-year-old Ukrainian Vitali. Thankfully, the bout won’t take place on paper and will be inside of a square ring at the PostFinance Arena, Berne, Switzerland. To be sure, most boxing experts see Johnson as a huge underdog in this fight and are giving him very little chance to beat Klitschko on December 12th.

Dirrell = A bigger version of Floyd Mayweather Jr; Klitschko-Johnson on HBO

dirrell3432444By Scott Gilfoid: Since putting on a masterful performance against World Boxing Council super middleweight champion Carl Froch last month in their Super Six tournament competition in Nottingham, England, the world has been on fire with the prospects of seeing the talented Andre Dirrell (18-1, 13 KO’s) in action again. Dirrell, 27, who looks like a taller, heavier version of Floyd Mayweather Jr., showed incredible hand speed and defensive skills in fighting Froch and making him look, as one poster pointed out recently, like Bambi on ice skates. I have to agree with that comment.

Kevin Johnson calls Haye an “Over-hyped cruiserweight”

haye45232By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight contender Kevin Johnson (22-0-1, 9 KO’s) had a few choice words to say about the new World Boxing Association heavyweight champion David Haye in an open letter from Johnson to Haye, saying “I have to say that your fight with Nikolay [Valuev] was the worst fight that I ever witnessed in my life. You proved again that you are nothing more than an over-hyped cruiserweight with a big mouth.”
