Keith Thurman: Khan has no business at 147

thurman12By Scott Gilfoid: #1 WBO, #4 WBA, Keith Thurman (21-0, 19 KO’s) doesn’t see #2 WBC, Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) as a serious factor at 147. Thurman believes that Khan’s level was shown when he was stopped in the 4th round by WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia last year in July. Thurman sees Khan as being in the wrong division now that he’s got the idea of moving up in weight to the welterweight division.

Thurman said to Live Fight “He [Khan] couldn’t take Danny Garcia’s left hook at 140. I really don’t think Amir Khan has any business stepping up into the 147 division. He’s really not my cup of team. I’m hungry for something else.”

Keith Thurman wants Broner, Mayweather, Canelo, more!

thurman11By Allan Fox: Newly crowned WBA interim welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (21-0, 19 KO’s) says he’s got some big names on his list that he wants to fight next. Instead of aiming low, Thurman is targeting WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Tim Bradley, Devon Alexander and Marcos Maidana.

Unfortunately, Thurman will have very little chance of fighting any of them next.

Thurman said on his twitter when asked who he wants to fight next, “Maidana, Mayweather, Bradley, Canelo, Alexander, any of them.”

Thurman defeats Chaves, wins interim WBA 147 lb. title

thurman333By Dan Ambrose: Keith Thurman (21-0, 19 KO’s) proved that he’s the real deal in overcoming the huge punching power of Argentinian Diego Chaves (22-1, 18 KO’s) to stop him in the 10th round on Saturday night to win the interim WBA welterweight title at the AT&T Center, in San Antonio, Texas, USA.

Thurman used a variety of approaches to try and solve the hard hitting Chaves. Initially he tried to slug with Chaves, but by the middle of the right, Thurman had figured out that wasn’t going to work. He then adapted and switched tactics by choosing to box Chaves and mix in hard power shots.

“Knockout Kings 2” What we learned!

thurman2332By Sotoman: Last night was a tremendous night of boxing.  The cards lived up to its name “Knockout Kings 2”.  The each fight was full of excitement and grueling back and forth exchanges.  there are several things we learned from yesterdays results.

1. Keith Thurman (21-0, 19 KO’s) will now be avoided, welcome to the world of “GGG”, Mr. One Time Thurman.

With his impressive win last night, Thurman displayed his heart and stamina in finding the late KO of Diego Chaves.  If anyone though Chaves was a walk in the park, I hope they saw differently after. Thurman fought through adversity for most of the fight and his constant pressure and boxing ability allowed him to find openings and tag the slow Chaves throughout the night, finally getting the KO 28 seconds into the 10th.

Berto faces Soto Karass and Thurman battles Chaves tonight on Showtime

The title that will be on the line tonight, the vacant NABF welterweight strap, tells you how far the 29-year-old Berto has slipped from the big time.

No longer fighting for major titles after losing two out of his last three fights, he’s now content with fighting over an obscure strap. If Berto loses tonight to Soto Karass, he might as well pack it in and retire from boxing because there’s very little chance he’ll have anywhere to go from here.

Weights: Berto 147,Soto Karass 147; Thurman 146, Chaves 146.25

Berto weighed in at 147 lbs, and Soto Karass also came in at 147.

In the co-feature, unbeaten welterweight Keith Thurman (20-0, 18 KO’s) weighed in at 146 for his fight against Diego Chaves (22-0, 18 KO’s) for the interim WBC welterweight title. Chaves weighed in slightly heavier at 146.25.

Unbeaten super middleweight Anthony Dirrell (25-0, 21 KO’s) weighed in at 172 lbs, and his opponent Anthony Hanshaw (23-3-2, 14 KO’s) weighed in at 171.5.

Diego Chaves will give Keith Thurman problems

thurman43By Allan Fox: Unbeaten Keith “One Time” Thurman (20-0, 18 KO’s) is going to have to be on the top of his game this Saturday night in his match-up against #1 WBA, Diego Chaves (22-0, 18 KO’s) in their Showtime televised fight at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Thurman has been saying for well over a year now that he’s ready to fight and beat the best at 147. He’s going to get a chance to prove that he’s for real against the hard hitting Chaves.

Chaves has excellent power, and he’s a lot like Saul “Canelo” Alvarez with his fighting style. He’s got knockout power in both hands, and a vicious right uppercut that he likes to throw.

Berto-Soto Karass & Thurman-Chaves this Saturday, 7/27, on Showtime

berto44By Allan Fox: Former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (28-2, 22 KO’s) will have his career on the line this Saturday night against Jesus Soto Karass (27-8-3, 17 KO’s) in their fight at the AT&T Center, in San Antonio, Texas, USA. Berto, 29, cannot afford to lose this fight, because he’s already lost 2 out of his last 3 bouts, and it’s at the critical stage where another loss will signal the end of Berto as far being a contender.

He’s got a new trainer in Virgil Hunter, so he can’t make any excuses about not being at his best. Hunter is one of the best trainer’s in all of boxing, and he’s not going to let Berto get into his bad habits of fighting off the ropes and trying to use the shoulder roll defense.

Keith Thurman and Diego Chaves square off on July 27th on Showtime in San Antonio, Texas

thurman32 - CopyBy Dan Ambrose: Undefeated welterweight Keith Thurman (20-0, 18 KO’s) will be getting a chance to show if he’s for real or not against Diego Chaves (22-0, 18 KO’s) on July 27th from the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

The WBA interim World welterweight title will be on the line for the winner and Showtime will be televising the fight in the United States. This will be the 24-year-old Thurman’s big chance to show that he belongs among the top fighters at 147. He’s called out the likes of Paulie Malignaggi, Tim Bradley and Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the past, to name a few, but he didn’t have the resume to show that he belonged with those guys in the ring.

Keith Thurman in position to win interim WBA 147 lb. title against Chaves

thurman3By Allan Fox: #4 WBA, Keith Thurman (20-0, 18 KO’s) is looking good right now to beat undefeated Diego Chaves (22-0, 18 KO’s) to claim the interim WBA welterweight title this month on July 27th at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Thurman, 24, has most of the advantages in this fight against the 27-year-old Chaves. Thurman is taller, stronger, faster, better defensively and a little more experienced against better opposition than Chaves.

The only thing we don’t know about Thurman is how he’ll handle his first real puncher of his career. Chaves hits harder than the guys that Thurman has been facing, and we’ve already seen that Thurman can be hit.
