thurman11By Allan Fox: Newly crowned WBA interim welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (21-0, 19 KO’s) says he’s got some big names on his list that he wants to fight next. Instead of aiming low, Thurman is targeting WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Tim Bradley, Devon Alexander and Marcos Maidana.

Unfortunately, Thurman will have very little chance of fighting any of them next.

Thurman said on his twitter when asked who he wants to fight next, “Maidana, Mayweather, Bradley, Canelo, Alexander, any of them.”

When asked if he wanted to fight Adrien Broner next, Thurman said “Of course.”

Thurman has a better chance of fighting Jesus Soto Karass next than any of the aforementioned fighters. Soto Karass stopped Andre Berto in the 12th round last Saturday night at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas, and the win almost guarantees that Soto Karass’ next fight will be televised by Showtime.

Thurman’s kind of in the same boat as Thurman with him not in the running to get a fight against the likes of Broner, Mayweather, Bradley, Canelo and Alexander. Soto Kararass already fought Maidana last year in September and was stopped in the 8th round. So that’s not a possibility for Soto Karass to revisit that fight.

Thurman vs. Soto Karass would be an excellent fight as long as Thurman mixed it up a little bit more than he did last Saturday night against Diego Chaves. Thurman won the fight by a 10th round TKO, but he used too much movement and it wasn’t nearly as entertaining as his previous fights.

Thurman made the fight dull, and it kind of took away from the card, which had Omar Figueroa and Nihito Arakawa going toe-to-toe for 12 rounds in a war for the interim WBC lightweight title.

Thurman needs to try and be more entertaining because he’s still in the process of building his fan base, and fight like he did last Saturday night against Chaves left a lot to be desired. Thurman doesn’t have Mayweather’s hand speed, so it’s not nearly as interesting seeing him fighting like Mayweather rather than brawling with his opponents.

Thurman will eventually get a shot at the WBA title. It might not be against Adrien Broner, because he’s expected to vacate the title after he gets in an optional title defense or two.
