Thurman-Garcia: The Talent Stack

Image: Thurman-Garcia: The Talent Stack

By Joseph Hirsch: It’s getting to be a rarer and rare sight these days: two undefeated guys in their prime and in the top of the rankings, squaring off against each other in the boxing ring. After the disappointment of getting our collective hopes up for the Golovkin-Alvarez showdown that may or may not materialize in 2018, hardcore fans at least got to see a high-speed chess match between Sergey Kovalev and Andre Ward in 2016.

A similar matchup between two unbeatens at the top of the heap is slated for March 4th at Barclays between Keith “One Time” Thurman and Danny “Swift” Garcia. Like most people trying to figure the odds and the angles on this one, I have Thurman picked to win. Unlike a lot of people, though, I’m having trouble forgetting how many times Danny Garcia has been the B-side of boxing cards, and the underdog who over-performed.

Is Keith Thurman just another cherry for Danny Garcia?

Image: Is Keith Thurman just another cherry for Danny Garcia?

By Nick: WBC Welterweight champion Danny “Swift” Garcia (33-0) will be facing the WBA Welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (27-0) in what seems to be, the most anticipated fight in the welterweight division on March 4. But, why now? Now that I have your attention from the title, I’d like to share an interesting perspective that has caught my attention that I’m sure true boxing fans might find interesting as well.

A lot of speculation has surrounded this fight. More recently with the outrageous and unorthodox psych out tactics performed by Angel Garcia, father and trainer of Danny Garcia.

Image: Can Danny Garcia handle Keith Thurman’s body shots?

By Danny Esch: On Saturday March 4th of 2017 there will be an epic battle between two Champions in a unification bout to get one step closer to claiming the top spot at welterweight with Danny Garcia facing Keith Thurman. On both sides, you have two young and determined American Champions both from the east coast but from two different areas on the map of the USA.

The WBC Champion Danny “SWIFT” Garcia fights out of Philadelphia Pennsylvania at a more northern point on the map and then you have the second Champion the WBA Champion hard-hitting Keith “ONE TIME” Thurman who resides more south in Clear Water/St Petersburg Florida.

Danny Garcia vs. Keith Thurman prediction

Image: Danny Garcia vs. Keith Thurman prediction

By Jeff Aranow: Trainer Abel Sanchez says he thinks WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia takes the unification fight against WBA champion Keith “One Time” Thurman on March 4. The two fighters are now a little over a month away from their big fight on Showtime Championship Boxing on CBS rom the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Sanchez says he wasn’t impressed with Thurman’s past fights against Luis Collazo and Diego Chaves. Thurman was hurt in both of those fights. He also barely beat Shawn Porter last year in a grueling 12 round fight in which Thurman had to use a lot of movement to keep from getting chopped down.

Khan: I’ll fight Brook-Spence or Garcia-Thurman winner

Image: Khan: I’ll fight Brook-Spence or Garcia-Thurman winner

By Jeff Aranow: Amir Khan says he has the option right now of fighting the winner of the Kell Brook vs. Errol Spence Jr. or Danny Garcia vs. Keith Thurman fights. Khan isn’t sure which of the two winners of the fight he’ll end up facing, however. He says he does still want to fight Brook, but it’s still too early for them to fight because he plans on taking a tune-up fight in April to help test out his surgically repaired right hand.

Khan wants to use that fight to sharpen up. He suffered a bad knockout loss to middleweight Saul Canelo Alvarez last year in May. The problem with Khan fighting the winner of the Brook-Spence fight is that Brook might not take the fight.

Thurman unimpressed with Danny Garcia’s power

Image: Thurman unimpressed with Danny Garcia’s power

By Jeff Aranow: WBA World welterweight champion Keith “One Time’ Thurman (27-0, 22 KOs) sees nothing in the offensive arsenal of WBC 147lb champion Danny “Swift” Garcia (33-0, 19 KOs) that worries him about their fight on March 4 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Thurman sees Garcia as a basic puncher, who doesn’t have the punching power to hurt him in his estimation.

Thurman notes that Danny Garcia couldn’t drop Mauricio Herrera, Robert Guerrero or Lamont Peterson. He believes that if he couldn’t knock those guys down, then he surely won’t be able to put him down on the canvas either.

Thurman hopes KO win over Garcia makes him new face at 147

Image: Thurman hopes KO win over Garcia makes him new face at 147

By Dan Ambrose: WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman is counting on a knocking out WBC champion Danny Garcia in a spectacular fashion on March 4, possibly with a single punch. Thurman believes that a sensational knockout of Garcia will not only move him to the No.5 spot in the pound-for-pound rankings, but also make him the No.1 welterweight in the division.

Thurman sees a spectacular win over Garcia as making him the “new face” in the 147lb division. It would make Thurman the replacement for Floyd Mayweather Jr. There hasn’t been a replacement for Mayweather as of yet, because no one in the welterweight division has stepped forward to claim the spot by beating a top guy that the boxing fans respect.

Thurman to Danny Garcia: You’re getting knocked out

Image: Thurman to Danny Garcia: You’re getting knocked out

By Eric Baldwin: WBA World welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman )27-0, 22 KOs) says WBC belt holder Danny Garcia (33-0, 19 KOs) has made a grave mistake in signing the contract to fight him on March 4, because he’s going to knock him out and take his WBC title in the process.

Thurman, 28, respects the punching power of Garcia, but he sees his own knockout power as being a level above his. Thurman points out that when Garcia hits guys, they go down and then get right back up. In contrast, when he knocks guys down, they stay down and don’t get back up.

Garcia-Thurman: Guardian Angel?

Image: Garcia-Thurman: Guardian Angel?

By Chris Miller: Ask most fighters and they will tell you “Boxing is 90% mental and 10% physical.” Nobody knows the exact ratio but for sure a huge chunk of ability is certainly housed between the ears. There is nobody who can antagonize or ignite emotion in a fighter the way trainer Angel Garcia manages to.

Good or bad, whatever your views are, he seems to be an Angel to his son WBC champion Danny ‘Swift’ Garcia, but a demon to any opponent. That opponent now is current WBA welterweight champion Keith ‘One Time’ Thurman.

Thurman wants Errol Spence Jr. match to be mega-fight

Image: Thurman wants Errol Spence Jr. match to be mega-fight

By Dan Ambrose: WBA welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (27-0, 22 KOs) says before he faces unbeaten Errol Spence Jr. (21-0, 18 KOs) in the future, he wants the fight to be built up by the media to the point where it’s a mega-fight rather than a normal fight.

Thurman points out that Floyd Mayweather Jr. didn’t agree to fight Manny Pacquiao when the boxing public wanted him to. He waited until he was ready to make that fight happen before he finally agreed to do it.
