By Nick: WBC Welterweight champion Danny “Swift” Garcia (33-0) will be facing the WBA Welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (27-0) in what seems to be, the most anticipated fight in the welterweight division on March 4. But, why now? Now that I have your attention from the title, I’d like to share an interesting perspective that has caught my attention that I’m sure true boxing fans might find interesting as well.

A lot of speculation has surrounded this fight. More recently with the outrageous and unorthodox psych out tactics performed by Angel Garcia, father and trainer of Danny Garcia.

Garcia/Matthysse vs. Mayweather makes no sense

matthysse84By Nick: With the rising stardom of the undefeated WBA/WBC light-welterweight champion Danny Garcia, and the hard hitting Lucas Matthysse, it is very easy to draw conclusions on why one of the two should be selected to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr (44-0) after his bout with undefeated Light Middleweight champion Saul Canelo Alvarez. (42-0-1) Although it seems like the right move to make, giving the best promotion a fighter could have in this age of boxing, it really does not add up when looked at from a realistic stand point.

Not once, in recent years, has a fighter jumped his own weight class and instantly fought the top ranking, pound for pound, champion in Floyd Mayweather Jr. Every opponent Mayweather has faced since coming into the welterweight division where welterweights themselves who literally had to be top notch and walk through their opponents before facing Floyd.
