By Dan Ambrose: Nonito Donaire (27-1, 18 KO’s) has a potential big money fight on the horizon for himself if he can get by Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. (21-1-1, 18 Ko’s) in their fight for the vacant World Boxing Council super bantamweight title on February 4th on the undercard of the Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Marco Antonio Runbio fight at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
Jorge Arce
Jorge Arce vs. Lorenzo Parra on February 18th
By Dan Ambrose: WBA bantamweight champion Jorge Arce (59-6-2, 45 KO’s) will be making a voluntary defense against non-top 15 ranked Lorenzo Parra (31-3-1, 18 KO’s) on February 18th in Durango, Mexico. Arce, 32, fought Parra last year in September in a 10 round draw. I saw the fight and had Parra winning easily at least two rounds. He was the stronger puncher, the faster and landed the much cleaner punches.
Arum wants to match Donaire against Nishioka and Arce in 2012
By Chris Williams: Photo credit: Sumio Yamada – In a sign that he may have a tin ear for what boxing fans want to see, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum wants to move his fighter Nonito Donaire (27-1, 18 KO’s) up to the super bantamweight division where Arum wants Donaire to spend the better part of the year facing WBC super bantamweight champion Toshioki Nishioka and then WBO super bantamweight champion Jorge Arce so that Donaire can capture two of the belts. With Arum still not matching Donaire against the fighters that fans want to see him facing in Yuriorkis Gamboa aand Juan Manuel Lopez, it makes you wonder if Arum has confidence in Donaire or not.
Arce stops Nongqayi
By Allen Fox: Making his first defense of his World Boxing Organization (WBO) super bantamweight title Jorge Arce (58-6-2, 45 KO’s) stopped former IBF super flyweight champion Simphiwe Nongqayi (16-2-1, 6 KO’s) in the 4th round on Saturday night at the Foro Promo Casa, Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico.
Who will be the first Mexican fighter to capture four world titles: Arce, Montiel, Marquez or Morales?
By Gerardo Granados: In the race to be crowned as the first ever Mexican fighter to achieve world titles in four different weight divisions only four warriors have a real chance to accomplish what Roberto Duran and Leo Gamez have done as Latin American fighters.
Salido vs. Lopez II and Arce vs. Vazquez II possible for November on Showtime
By Dan Ambrose: A November rematch between WBO featherweight champion Orlando Salido (35-11-2, 23 KO’s) and Juan Manuel Lopez (30-1, 27 KO’s) and World Boxing Organization super bantamweight champion Jorge Arce (57-6-2, 44 KO’s) and Wildredo Vazquez (20-1, 17 KO’s) are a possibility, according to Dan Rafael. Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is looking to set up these rematches for one huge card on Showtime. If Arum can pull this off it would be one of the best cards of the year.
Jorge Arce is not a four weight division champion
By Gerardo Granados: Obviously the hard core boxing fans already knew he is not. Last Friday 6th, Jorge Arce was interviewed right after the weigh inn of his fight against Wilfredo Vazquez Jr., when he was asked about his chance to become a three division champion, Arce got upset and tried to explain that he was a former three division champion looking to achieve a fourth weight division, also trying to explain that his WBC flyweight title was not “interim.”
Arce takes Vazquez Jr. into the deep rounds and stops him
By Dan Ambrose: Former two division world champion Jorge Arce (57-6-2, 44 KO’s) exposed World Boxing Organization (WBO) super bantamweight champion Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. (20-1-1, 17 KO’s) last Saturday night, handing Vazquez Jr. his first loss of his five-year pro career by stopping him in the 12th round with a flurry of shots that ended with Vazquez’s corner stepping into the ring to get the fight halted. The bout was officially stopped by referee Joe Cortez at 0:55 of the 12th.
Arce-Vazquez Jr, Pavlik-Lopez, Alvarado-Narh tonight: Three opportunities to go to the refrigerator
By Chris Williams: Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime – If you were hoping that tonight’s expensive $55 pay-per-view card with Manny Pacquiao taking on an old Shane Mosley would have a good undercard packaged along with it, I’m afraid you might be a tad bit disappointed at what you’ll be getting. I don’t know about you but I’m not in the least bit interested in the Pacquiao-Mosley undercard fights – not one.
Pavlik-Lopez, Vazquez-Arce & Alvarado-Narh this Saturday on Pacquiao vs. Mosley undercard
By Chris Williams: This Saturday’s $55 pay-per-view card headed by Manny Pacquiao vs. 39-year-old Shane Mosley is one of the weaker ones within memory. Other than the main event between Pacquiao and Mosley, which looks to be a terrible mismatch, the undercard doesn’t have much going for it in terms of compelling fights.
