Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is looking to set up these rematches for one huge card on Showtime. If Arum can pull this off it would be one of the best cards of the year.

The only question is where the fight would take place. I’d hate to see it wind up in Peurto Rico instead of Las Vegas, Nevada. It will be a much better fight if it can be local so that boxing writers can get to it without having to take an incredibly long plane flight all the way to Puerto Rico. Besides that, Salido is now the featherweight champion, not Lopez, so the fight shouldn’t be taking place in Puerto Rico again. The same goes for Vazquez Jr. He’s no longer the WBO super bantamweight champion after getting stopped in the 12th round by Arce in May. Arce wore Vazquez down and had him out on his feet in the 12th at the time of the stoppage.

Lopez was battered by Salido in an 8th round TKO loss in April in a fight that saw Lopez down in the 5th and battered from pillor to post until the referee mercifully stopped the bout in the 8th to save Lopez from absorbing anymore punishment. It’s admirable that Lopez wants to try and avenge his defeat to Salido immediately instead of fighting a couple of tune-ups to try and recover from the terrible beating and iron out some problems with his game. But it looks like Lopez doesn’t want any tune-ups and is going to go straight into a rematch without even a token bout to see where his skills are after the beating. I personally think it’s stupid of Lopez to take on Salido again because it’s too risky and Salido showed that he’s the stronger fighter of the two. The way that Salido whipped Lopez, they could fight 1000 times and it would likely be the same outcome. Salido has got Lopez’s number.
