Was Calzaghe Put Off Dawson Due to His Lacy Experience?

calzaghe5435645By Simon Hirst: When Joe Calzaghe fought Jeff Lacy, Lacy was billed as the Tyson of the super middleweight division. He was unbeaten and had a fearsome reputation, which was half the fight won when entered the ring. In a unification bout with Calzaghe, Lacy was favourite to win. Roy Jones Jr. to Fight Lacy?

jones4448By Jason Kim: After watching former IBF super middleweight champion Jeff Lacy struggle to win a 10-round majority decision over Otis Griffin recently, I figured that Roy Jones Jr. (53-5, 39 KOs) would have lost any interest that he ever had in fighting Lacy. However, according to an interview from Jones Jr. at Boxingtalk, Jones said “Jeff Lacy told me he wants to make this fight in Tampa and I think we’re going to make it happen.”

Should Lacy Retire?

lacy5679Photo © Wray Edwards – By Jim Dower: After watching Jeff Lacy (25-2, 17 KOs) battle hard to scrape out a 10-round majority decision last night against Otis Griffin, I think it’s high time that Lacy consider retirement as an option. Lacy looked flat horrible last night, fighting mostly with one good arm, getting hit a lot by Griffin, and clinching for all he was worth. Lacy looked like a fighter in his 40s rather than his early 30s by the way he was fighting out there against Griffin, a B-class opponent at best.

Lacy Struggles to Defeat Griffin, Wants Bout With Roy Jones Jr.

lacy45443Photo © Wray Edwards – By Jim Dower: I’m not sure that former IBF super middleweight champion Jeff Lacy (25-2, 17 KOs) made enough of a case of himself last night to inspire light heavyweight Roy Jones Jr. to want to fight him after Lacy had to dig deep in order to defeat Otis Griffin (19-5-2, 7 KOs) by a 10-round majority decision at the Sun Dome, in Tampa, Florida. The final judges’ scores were 95-95, 96-94 and 97-93. Lacy, 31, fought well in first couple of rounds, landing hard right hands and powerful jabs.
