Roy Jones Jr. Planning on Fighting Either Lacy or Johnson, and then Moving Up To Heavyweight
By Dave Lahr: In an interview with Boxing Talk, former middleweight and light heavyweight champion Roy Jones Jr. (53-5, 39 KOs) is looking at either a fight with former super middleweight champion Jeff Lacy or a rematch with Glen Johnson, and then immediately after that Jones will be moving back up to the heavyweight division where he previously held a title in 2003 with a 12-round unanimous decision over John Ruiz.

By Eric Thomas: The latest big news gossip item is that Roy Jones Jr. (53-5, 39 KOs) could very well be fighting super middleweight contender Jeff Lacy (24-2, 17 KOs) in June. In an interview at Boxingtalk’s website, Jones, 40, said “He’s [Jeff Lacy] a good fighter and a strong puncher and that’s why he wants to fight me because he’s a puncher.” Lacy, 31, later said that he’s also interested in a fight with Jones. However, before that can happen, Lacy has an April 10th match-up with Otis Griffin in Tampa, Florida.

By Dan Ambrose: After recently suffering his second one-sided loss in the past two years, there are whispering in the boxing community that super middleweight contender Jeff Lacy (24-2, 17 KOs) is a shot fighter, that he doesn’t have it anymore due to his vicious beat down at the hands of Joe Calzaghe two years ago. That may or may not be true, but what is true is that Lacy doesn’t seem to be the same fighter that went 21-0 with 17 knockouts at the time that he met up with Calzaghe in March 2006.

Lacy Unretires, Will Be Facing Taylor After All
By Dan Ambrose: After a week of a so-called retirement, former IBF super middleweight champion Jeff Lacy (24-1, 17 KOs) will be coming back to fight former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Jermain Taylor (27-2-1, 17 KOs) on November 15th, in Las Vegas. Frankly, I’m not in the least surprised that Lacy is coming back, because he’s still fighting well, is popular with many boxing fans, and is still highly sought after as a potential opponent by other popular fighters. He’s also paid well for his fights, even though he doesn’t currently hold a championship belt.
Lacy, 31, is coming off another less than impressive on July 23rd against Epifanio Mendoza, in which Lacy was given a 10-round majority decision win. In the fight, Lacy was staggered several times and on one occasion, in the 8th round, he ended up tackling Mendoza to gain a little time to recover. For a moment there, it looked as if Lacy wouldn’t make it out of the round for he was badly shook from a big right hand that he took to the top of his head. Mendoza’s power was quite exceptional, and Lacy may taken on more than he bargained for by signing on to fight a dangerous puncher like Mendoza.
