BJ “The Dangerous One” Flores [23-0-1(25)] vs Epifanio Mendoza [29-7-1(25)] for the NABO Junior Heavyweight Championship

I have personally never watched a BJ Flores fight. I am curious to see just how good he is. Mendoza looks in good shape coming in. BJ resembles the prototypical UFC fighter. He is sporting an all-white get-up. Mendoza strangely enough sprints backstage when Flores gets in the ring; turns out he forgot to put on his cuff! LOL!

Both fighters firing the jab. Mendoza swings wildly and misses badly. Flores continues to jab.

10-9 Flores

Danny “Green Machine” Machine [26-3(23)] vs Julio Cesar Dominguez [20-4-1(14)] for the IBO Cruiserweight Championship

As Dominguez enters the ring, one of the commentators states, “Dominguez enters the ring to the sound of 1 hand clapping (LOL),” due to his not having ring entrance music. Green enters, typically, to “The Land Down Under” by Men At Work.

Round 1

Green begins with the jab. Dominguez lands 3 huge body shots. Green follows Dominguez around the ring firing with his jab. Dominguez lands 2 more body shots. Huge overhand right sends Dominguez into the ropes. Standing 8 count. Wait, they say that there is no standing 8 count. Why do the referees keep getting between the fighters if they are not down and they are not stopping the fight? The round ends.

10-8 Green

Round 2

Straight left lands for Dominguez. Stiff jab for Green. They trade jabs in the center of the ring. Body shot lands for Green. Huge left hand for Green!

10-9 Green

Round 5

Green lands an uppercut. He continues to work the body. 3 straight left hands for Green. Dominguez takes them well. Left hand drops Dominguez! He is up at 8. Dominguez is fighting for his life. Huge right hand drops Dominguez again! Dominguez’ corner men jump into the ring.

Danny Green TKO Round 5 – New IBO Cruiserweight Champion

After the fight, (I love this guy’s accent!) Danny tells Roy, “I’ve done my part by winning the title, now let’s get it on down under!”

Roy Jones Jr [53-5(39)] vs Jeff “Left Hook” Lacy [25-2(17)] for the NABO Light Heavyweight Championship

There is a 40 minute delay due to a dispute by Jeff Lacy as to what gloves were to be worn. Lacy argued that they had agreed on a certain type of glove, and at the last minute, Roy’s corner tried to implement a new pair. Mississippi Boxing rules state that both fighters must wear the same gloves. Lacy ends up winning the argument, with Roy agreeing to Lacy’s choice of Everlast gloves. Lacy states it just makes him want to “beat his ass more.”

Round 1

Lacy looks loose. He fires a right hand. Left hook lands for Roy. Big left hook for Roy! Roy already dropping his guard. Jones looks really fast compared to Lacy. They fight against the ropes. Lacy is firing overhand rights and missing. Great uppercut for Roy. He needs to stay off the ropes.

10-9 Jones

Round 2

Jones is back against the ropes. Lacy is working the body. Jones lands a quick combination. Lacy appears to be keeping Roy against the ropes in an attempt to negate the speed difference between them. Uppercut for Jones. Lacy is doing good work inside, but I don’t see much landing.

Round 3

Jones is back against the ropes again. For the first time though, he appears to be doing good work inside. He lands an uppercut. Lacy is cut in the right eye after a combination by Jones. Jones cannot miss an uppercut.

10-9 Jones

“Lacy looks a lot like Mike Tyson,” my wife states between rounds.

Round 4

Jones is pot-shotting now. Lacy looks frustrated. Jones has his man in trouble. He can finish him off any time. This is vintage Jones.

10-9 Jones

Round 5

Lacy backs Jones against the ropes. 4 straight left hooks land for Roy! Jones is landing at will. Lacy sure can take a punch. Roy just landed a 10 punch combination at lightning speed!

10-9 Jones

Round 6

Lacy works Jones in the corner again. It doesn’t look like Lacy has much behind his punches anymore. Roy is sticking out his tongue. Lacy is getting outworked now. Jones is now talking to someone in the crowd while he is trading shots against the ropes! Are you kidding me?

10-9 Jones

Round 7

Lacy once again has Roy against the ropes. He really needs to change his strategy at this point. Roy is landing uppercut after uppercut on the inside. Roy lands a 5 punch combination to the body. Roy continues to have a conversation with someone in the audience. The commentators think it’s hilarious!

10-9 Jones

Round 8

Lacy again has Roy against the ropes. Roy is doing a number on Lacy. Still though, Lacy is soldiering on. 7 left hooks in a row by Jones!

10-9 Jones

Round 9

Lacy is in trouble! He stumbles all the way across the ring. This could be the end. Lacy chooses to fight on. His face is a mess! Roy is being blatantly merciful at this point.

10-9 Jones

Round 10

Roy continues to land his uppercuts on the inside. Lacy’s left eye is swollen shut. Roy lands a left hook that sends Lacy back against the ropes! Instead of finishing his man off, Roy chooses to continue his conversation with an audience member! Outrageous!

10-9 Jones

Lacy’s corner stops the fight between rounds.
