By Chris Williams: WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (25-1, 16 KO’s) will be defending his World Boxing Council title against former IBF/WBO light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (29-0, 17 KO’s) on August 14th, at the Bell Centre, in Montreal, Canada. Pascal, originally from Haiti and now living and fighting out of Canada, will be making his 3rd defense of his WBC light heavyweight title. Pascal, 27, last fought against Adrian Diaconu in December 2009, but injured his right shoulder in the fight and needed surgery on it to repair the problem five days after the fight.

By Jason Kim: The Ring magazine will be picking the winner of the August 14th clash between WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal and Chad Dawson as their champion of the light heavyweight division. It’s hard to understand why Dawson, 27, hasn’t already been picked by The Ring as the champion years ago, because he’s clearly been the best fighter in the light heavyweight division for at least two, if not three years. While some would say that Bernard Hopkins deserved that title, I don’t agree with that.

Dawson really wanted a popular fighter and decent money fight, and with the light heavyweight division almost entirely barren of big money stars, Dawson decided to fight Pascal.

By Eric Thomas: Gary Shaw, the promoter for light heavyweight Chad Dawson (29-0, 17 KO’s) says that Dawson could possibly fight International Boxing Federation super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (25-0, 20 KO’s) after Dawson gets through with his August 15th bout against WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal. In an article from Dan Rafael of ESPN, he quotes Shaw as saying “He [Dawson] wants the biggest fights he can get and Pascal is a big fight. If he beats Pascal, maybe we’ll come back and fight Lucian Bute.” That sounds like great news if things turn out to be like that.

By Jim Dower: Former International Boxing Federation/WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (29-0, 17 KO’s) and Jean Pascal (25-1, 16 KO’s) have agreed to fight on August 14th, in a fight that will be shown on HBO at the Bell Centre, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The August 14th date is two months later than people thought that fight would take place. Previously, it was believed that Dawson and Pascal would fight on June 19th. However, according to Ringtv, Pascal’s recently surgically repaired right shoulder needs more time to recover.

By Daniel Ciminera: I’ve read other articles about this prospective June 19th fight and spoken to a lot of people about it, and the general consensus is that it is an easy win for Dawson.
Probably by knockout. However, whilst I was tempted to agree and say Bad Chad steamrolls Pascal as the only thing he’s done which impressed me, was beat Diaconu one-handed. I don’t care that Diaconu isn’t a world beater, beating anyone one-handed is impressive.
Then I stepped back and looked at it again. I got to thinking that if I had to actually think that hard about it, then it was not as clear cut and simple as it first looked so I looked closer, watched youtube for a few hours and studied the records of both these fighters.

By William Mackay: Although the negotiations for a fight between World Boxing Council light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (25-1, 16 KO’s) and WBC light heavyweight interim champion Chad Dawson 29-0, 17 KO’s) haven’t been ironed out yet, this is a fight that is sure to bring excitement to the light heavyweight division when the fight is finally announced. There is a question whether the 27-year-old Pascal’s right shoulder will be healed by June 19th. The date may have to be pushed back beyond that date depending on how well Pascal’s recently injured shoulder responds to training.

The problem first occurred early on in the fight, causing Pascal to have to fight the remainder of the bout using mainly his left hand to do most of the damage.
