Pascal hoping Dawson will mix it up with him

By Matt Stein: At yesterday’s press conference between World Boxing Council (WBC) light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (25-1, 16 KO’s) and Chad Dawson (29-0, 17 KO’s), an agitated looking Pascal had this to say to the undefeated Dawson: “If he thinks he can come to my town and run like a chicken and leave with my belt he is damn wrong. Stop talking s—t and let’s fight on Saturday night.” Dawson said “You and your team can trash talk all you want buddy, but I do my talking in the ring. There ain’t no chicken in me brother. You want to wish that on Saturday night, you’re going to have a long night.” Later on, the two fighters stood face to face where Dawson towered over the shorter 5’11” Pascal. This Saturday’s fight will be held at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.

Pascal’s only chance of beating Dawson is to brawl

By Matt Stein: I think it’s fair to say that WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal’s best chance at beating the two time light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson is to try and turn the fight into an all out brawl early and hope that he can either hurt Dawson and possibly stop him or take him out of his game plan. Dawson is probably going to be focusing on outboxing Pascal all fight long.

Dawson needs to go for Pascal’s shoulders to weaken him

Image: Dawson needs to go for Pascal’s shoulders to weaken himBy Scott Gilfoid: If former two-time light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (29-0, 17 KO’s) wants to increase his chances of beating WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (25-1, 16 KO’s) this Saturday night, he’ll aim some of his powerful straight left hands at Pascal’s recently surgically repaired right shoulder, the one that Pascal injured in his 12 round decision win over Adrian Diaconu in December 2009. Pascal has been rehabilitating the shoulder since then and realistically should have had a couple of tune-up bouts before facing a talented fighter like Dawson, but Pascal seems to be in a hurry to take this fight. I think he’s stupid for doing it after the injury that he suffered in his win over Diaconu, but at least it gives Pascal a decent excuse if things don’t turn out well for him.

Image: Dawson-Pascal winner could be facing Cloud nextBy Jason Kim: The winner of this Saturday’s light heavyweight clash between World Boxing Council (WBC) light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (25-0, 16 KO’s) vs. two-time light heavyweight champion unbeaten Chad Dawson (29-0, 17 KO’s) has the option of fighting IBF light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud (21-0, 18 KO’s) in a light heavyweight unification bout. This is a fight that HBO and boxing fans want to see. It’s going to be hard for the Dawson-Pascal winner to resist that pressure unless they can come up with a better fight than Cloud, such as IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute.

Dawson needs to move down in weight to the super middleweight division after he beats Pascal on Saturday

Image: Dawson needs to move down in weight to the super middleweight division after he beats Pascal on SaturdayBy Jim Dower: Two time light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (29-0, 17 KO’s) is really wasting his time and his career at light heavyweight, where there are no big names for him to fight aside from Bernard Hopkins. However, Hopkins doesn’t seem remotely interested in mixing it up with the 28-year-old Dawson. With few other opponents to fight at light heavyweight, Dawson has been forced to fight the old timers of the light heavyweight division Antonio Tarver and Glen Johnson. Now that both of those fighters have been beaten twice a piece, Dawson is now going to be taking on World Boxing Council light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (25-1, 16 KO’s) this Saturday night at the Bell Centre, in Montreal, Canada.

Will Bute take on the Dawson-Pascal winner or instead choose Pavlik?

Sean McDaniel: The fight that boxing fans want to see is IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (26-0, 21 KO’s) facing the winner of the August 14th clash between WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal and former light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson. However, the chances of Bute taking a fight against either of them, especially the tall and incredibly fast Dawson, is rather slim.
