Garcia: Donaire is too big and strong for Rigondeaux

donaire88By Chris Williams: Trainer Robert Garcia doesn’t see the April 13th unification fight between his fighter WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (31-1, 20 KO’s) and WBA champ Guillermo Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 KO’s) as being a competitive one despite feels from boxing fans that the Filipino Donaire has finally met his match with the tough body-punching Cuban.

Garcia sees the fight in simple terms – Donaire will win because he’s bigger and stronger than Rigondeaux. In other words, Donaire’s brawn will be too much for Rigondeaux to handle in this fight.

Garcia said to philboxing.com Donaire is “too big and too strong and the first time Nonito lands the left hook it should be over.”

Donaire: All my future opponents must agree to drug testing before I’ll fight them

donaire2By Chris Williams: WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (31-1, 20 KO’s) has decided that all of his future opponent must agree to be drug tested before he’ll fight them. If they don’t agree, then they won’t be allowed to fight him.

Donaire previously had made the extra drug testing optional, but he’s suddenly changed his mind about this stance and now everyone that faces Donaire will have to agree.

Donaire said to Doghouseboxing.com “I have decided from this point on, I will mandate my opponents to enroll in drug testing before I agree to any fights.”

Donaire: I have decided NOT to cancel Rigondeaux fight

donaire773By Chris Williams: WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (31-1, 20 KO’s) was upset over the weekend due to his opponent WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 KO’s) being a little late in starting the testing by the VADA for performance enhancing drugs for their April 13th fight at the Radio City Music Hall, New York, New York, USA.

Donaire was thinking about canceling the fight, but he says he’s decided not to for the sake of his fans and not upsetting HBO.

Rigondeaux ready to begin VADA testing for Donaire fight

rigon77By Chris Williams: Earlier today, there seemed to be panic on WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire’s facebook page due to Guillermo Rigondeaux having not begun the VADA testing that Donaire wants for the fight. Rigondeaux hadn’t left an address or a phone number to where he could be reached for his training camp so that the testing could be started.

Here’s what Donaire said on his facebook page had to say about Rigondeaux and the VADA testing:

“Rigo has not started testing in VADA bc he left no whereabouts addresses AND NO phone numbers to find him. All attempts from Top Rank and VADA have not resulted in Rigos whereabouts as of 2:20 pm PST Sat (2 days after presser).”

Donaire should be fighting Broner at 135; he’s too big for 122

donaire99By Chris Williams: In just finished watching the Nonito Donaire – Guillermo Rigondeaux press conference, and it’s clear as day why Donaire has been able to succeed at super bantamweight. Donaire is clearly a lightweight [135], and he should be fighting guys like WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner, Ricky Burns and Miguel Vazquez instead of melting down to fight little guys at 122.

Donaire is HUGE for super bantamweight. It’s like Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., who comes into his middleweight fights at 190 lbs. after making weight at 160. Donaire is huge for 122 lb. class, and that gives him a tremendous advantage over guys that actually fight at or near the 122 lb. division, like Rigondeaux.

Donaire with huge size advantage over Rigondeaux

donaire22By Dan Ambrose: The 5’5 ½” WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (31-1, 20 KO’s) looked like a giant standing next to the 5’4 ½” WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 KO’s) in their press conference on Thursday to announcement their April 13th fight at the Radio City Music Hall, in New York, New York, USA. The fight will be taking place and there will be the drug testing that Donaire wanted.

Donaire said “Rigondeaux has accomplished a lot and I respect him for what he’s accomplished. On April 13th, we will learn who the best fighter is at 122. Rigondeaux is a great fighter, but he still lacks experience [at the pro level]. Rigondeaux is a great fighter, but I believe in myself.”

Donaire: I don’t need Rigondeaux; I can fight anyone

donaire232By Chris Williams: WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (31-1, 20 KO’s) is ready to walk away from his scheduled unification bout against WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 KO’s) unless the 32-year-old Rigondeaux signs the agreement for the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) testing that Donaire wants for the April 13th fight.

Donaire said to RingTV “If he doesn’t sign it then I’m going to pull out. I don’t need him. I can always get someone else…He needs this fight more than I do.”

Donaire maintains that he doesn’t require for his opponents to agree to the extra testing in order for him to fight them, but since Rigondeaux said he would agree to the testing to get the fight then he should stick to his word.

Donaire vs. Rigondeaux fight announcement on Thursday, February 21st

donaire9By Chris Williams: The April 13th unification bout between WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (31-1, 20 KO’s) and WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 KO’s) will be announced this week on Thursday, February 21st.

The Donaire-Rigondeaux fight announcement will be streamed live at http://www.toprank.com/livestream at 12p ET/9a PT on Thursday.

Yesterday, Donaire made a huge production about the VADA testing that he was worried Rigondeaux was going to dodge for the fight. Rigondeaux, however, agreed to the testing and the fight is now back on. Hopefully, Donaire doesn’t have any other issues that come up to keep him from taking this fight because some boxing fans feel he really doesn’t want to take the fight due to the huge danger Rigondeaux presents to him.

Donaire has destroyed his last two opponents, Jorge Arce and Toshiaki Nishioka, after struggling against the younger Jeffrey Mathebula and Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. last year.

Arum: Rigondeaux wanted VADA contract in Spanish for Donaire fight

rigondeaux9By Chris Williams: Bob Arum of Top Rank is saying that WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux merely wanted a Spanish version of the VADA [Voluntary Anti-Doping] contract before he’d agree to sign it for his fight with WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire on April 13th, according to Steve Kim. Arum is saying everything is fine now.

They had an interpreter brought in to create a Spanish version of the VADA contract for Rigondeaux to sign. It makes sense because how can you ask Rigondeaux to sign a contract if he can’t even read what he’s signing.
