Donaire: I wasn’t 100% for the Rigondeaux fight

donaire#12By Chris Williams: Former IBF/WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (31-2, 20 KO’s) is saying that he wasn’t 100 percent for his recent defeat against WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (12-0, 8 KO’s) last April in New York.

Donaire says he was thinking about his family and was thinking retirement before the fight. I’m sure this will make Donaire’s huge fan base happy, because many of them were under the impression that Donaire had been beaten by Rigondeaux in a fairly convincing manner but Donaire is saying his loss was because he wasn’t at his best.

Rigondeaux could be back on HBO in November

rigondeaux00By Chris Williams: WBA/WBO super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (12-0, 8 KO’s) may not be off of HBO after all. Last week, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said that he’d received little interest from HBO executives when he mentioned putting Rigondeaux back on the network following his 12 round unanimous decision win over the popular HBO fighter Nonito Donaire last April.

Arum how apparently has convinced the HBO top brass to let Rigondeaux possibly fight on the undercard of WBO featherweight champion Mikey Garcia’s next fight, according to Steve Kim at Maxboxing. That’s not what you’d ideally want given Rigondeaux’s big win over Donaire. You would think he would deserve a top billing, but that’s not going to happen.

Who are the most technically gifted boxers in the sport?

ward3432First off, I am going to list down the achievements of each of these amazing boxers to help support my conclusion as to who deserves to be King starting with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has defeated many of the recent greats of boxing including – Juan Manuel Marquez, Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley, Ricky Hatton, Oscar De Le Hoya, and many other big names. It is because of this you have to give him a lot of credit. He has always possessed a unique defense, which I believe has permanently revolutionized the art of boxing. In addition to this, he has pinpoint accuracy and very intelligent ring-smarts.  I believe he could face basically any boxer of today and win unanimously. However, I do believe some of the above boxers I have mentioned could possibly come out on top.

HBO won’t be televising Rigondeaux’s next fight

rigondeaux111`By Chris Williams: WBA/WBO super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (12-0, 8 KO’s) may have done a great job of beating WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire in schooling him badly in a fight televised by HBO last April from New York, but HBO has no interest in televising Rigondeaux’s next fight, according to Dan Rafael.

Rigondeaux’s promoter Bob Arum says HBO doesn’t want to televise Rigondeaux’s next fight and he’s not sure what he’ll do for his next fight.

Arum said to Rafael at ESPN “Every time I mention him [Rigondeaux], they throw up. So I have to figure out who I could put him in with.”

Can Golovkin and Rigondeaux become huge draws like Floyd Mayweather Jr?

rigondeaux64By Gerardo Granados: Last Saturday night we all got the chance to see a beautiful knockout, a left hook to the body that was brilliantly prepared and executed by WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (27-0, 24 KO’s) in knocking out Matthew Macklin. Oh, the drama of the fallen contender screaming in pain was something to remember.

Once, a long time ago, Roy Jones Jr. knocked out hall of fame member Virgil Hill, but I believe it was a hook to the body delivered with the right hand that broke a rib and the pain of Hill was as dramatic as Golovkin´s.

Golovkin has evolved into a fearful middleweight champion; he has polished his boxing skills and packs a hammer on both of his hands. But is he ready to headline a pay per view event?

Can Abner Mares compete with Rigondeaux and Chris John?

mares56By Gerardo Granados: The newly crowned WBC featherweight champion Abner Mares (W26-L0-Dl) is only 27 years old and already has conquered world titles in three different weight divisions. The young lion has defeated good opposition to achieve it, but what kind of potential does he have?

The 5´4 1/2” height and 66” reach young lion is the third youngest Mexican fighter to achieve three divisional world titles behind Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. and Erik Morales.

“Terrible” is a future hall of fame member but he never reached the heights of Julio Cesar even though that he did had a special charisma and a big fan base.

Mares, 27, defeated former WBC featherweight champion Daniel Ponce De Leon earlier this month in a 9th round stoppage on May 4th. It was an impressive performance Mares, as he walked through a lot of hard punches from De Leon before finally halting him in the 9th round.
