Hatton worried about De La Hoya getting hurt against Golovkin

hatton555By Scott Gilfoid: Ricky Hatton doesn’t think it’s such a good idea for 42-year-old Oscar De La Hoya to face a slugger like WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) in his first fight of his potential comeback. De La Hoya has been saying over and over again that he only wants to fight the very best when or if he comes back, and he only wants Golovkin or Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Hatton, who is no stranger to ill-advised comebacks of his own, thinks that De La Hoya isn’t a real middleweight, and that he could be in trouble if he comes back to face a knockout artist like Golovkin.

Golovkin will have to wait on Lemieux fight

lemieux678By Allan Fox: If WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) is seriously interested in fighting newly crowned IBF middleweight champ David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs), then he’s going to need to wait a while, possibly a long while, before he gets a crack at him.

The 26-year-old Lemieux has a mandatory defense coming up against possibly 41-year-old Sam Soliman that he needs to get out of the way before he can start thinking about unification matches against the other champions at 160. The other thing that will likely hold back the Golovkin-Lemieux fight from taking place is Lemieux’s promoters at Golden Boy.

Golovkin wants De La Hoya, fight would be at 154

golovkin64By Dan Ambrose: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) says that he’ll take the fight with 42-year-old Oscar De La Hoya, and that he’ll take the fight “immediately” if the aging “Golden Boy” De La Hoya truly wants to fight him. However, for Golovkin to take the fight, he would have to agree to melt down to 154, because that’s the weight that De La Hoya wants the fight to take place at, according to ESPN.com.

Golovkin previously said that he’d come down to 154 for a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. but only against him. But it’s likely that Golovkin would be agreeable to facing De La Hoya at this weight as well, because it’s not as De La Hoya would be any kind of threat to beat him given his advanced age, the time off he’s had from the sport, and his poor showing before he retired in 2008.

Tim Bradley wants Golovkin fight at 160

bradley6656By Dan Ambrose: Former two division world champion Tim Bradley (31-1-1, 12 KOs) says he would like to step up to 160 to face IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) if he’s interested. Bradley, 31, says he’s not afraid to fight Golovkin, because he believes in his skills.

Bradley says he’ll fight at the full weight for the middleweight division without a catch-weight involved because he’s not afraid. Bradley says he’s been calling out Miguel Cotto and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez for a fight against one or both of them, but neither fighter has accepted his challenge.

De La Hoya says he’ll fight Mayweather-Golovkin winner

By Dan Ambrose: After saying last week that he’ll never ever return to the ring to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a rematch, 42-year-old former six division world champion Oscar De La Hoya has seemingly changed his tune. De La Hoya now says that he’ll only make a comeback to fight the winner of a fight between Mayweather and WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golokvin, if such a fight like that were to happen.

Golovkin wants Froch at Wembley Stadium, expects KO

froch1111By Scott Gilfoid: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) says he’d like to face Britain’s Carl Froch in a fight at Wembley Stadium in London, UK.

Golovkin has been hoping to hear from Froch, who has been silent on the subject of fighting Golovkin after initially entertaining the idea. Froch had said he would make a decision whether to come back or not in the first week of June, but since then he’s disappeared. It’s very strange.

Golovkin to Lemieux: Let’s make it happen now, not in the future!

golovkin101By Dan Ambrose: Now that Canada’s David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) has captured the IBF middleweight title with a 12 round unanimous decision win over Hassan N’Dam (31-2, 18 KOs) as of last Saturday night, WBA 160lb champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) is eager to get the 26-year-old Lemieux in the ring for a unification match.

Golovkin had been waiting for the outcome of the Lemieux-N’Dam fight in order to challenge the winner, and now that Lemieux has emerged victorious, Golovkin has already called him out for a unification fight.

Golovkin’s promoter still waiting for Cotto agreement

1-cotto (9)By Dan Ambrose: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler is still waiting on an agreement from WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto that the winner of his November fight against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will be fighting Golovkin in their next fight.

Thus far, Cotto and Canelo haven’t agreed to take the fight with Golovkin. But even if they do agree, it doesn’t mean that they can’t vacate the title.

Golovkin in a holding pattern waiting for a big fight to open up

golovkin883By Dan Ambrose: Gennady Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler has temporarily changed his strategy from having Golovkin fight nonstop contenders to having him wait on the biggest fight possible that can be made. Golovkin and Loeffler are waiting for the results of Saturday’s David Lemieux vs. Hassan N’Dam, Andre Ward vs. Paul Smith, as well as Andy Lee and his possible fight against Billy Joe Saunders.

If Golovkin can get one of those fighters in the fall, he’d do a lot more for his career than if he wind up facing another little known fighter in the Willie Monroe Jr. type category.

Mayweather rejects Golovkin in favor of Andre Berto?

berto111By Dan Ambrose: Floyd Mayweather Jr. said yesterday that he felt he would have no problems beating WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin if the two of them were to fight, but that Mayweather is nearing the end of his career. But what’s confusing is that Mayweather in the next breath said that he’s considering a fight against Andre Berto (30-3, 23 KOs) for his fight in September.

This leaves one to wonder whether Mayweather feels that Berto, who has lost 2 out of his last 4 fights, is a better fighter than Golovkin? If Berto is better, then why has he been struggling for so long with his career?
