1-canelo-cotto (8)By Al Classico: 2015 was a very big and eventful year in boxing which saw the biggest financial fight finally come to fruition as well loads of great match ups and many strong fight of the year candidates taking place.

2016 has a lot to live up to but the good news is that there are some great fights on the horizon for the boxing fans. Hopefully, we will see fights such as Saul “Canelo” Alvarez v Gennady “GGG” Golovkin, Andre Ward v Sergey Kovalev, Manny Pacquiao v Sergey Crawford, and hopefully some of the top welterweights will finally be paired up to fight each other.

Canelo doesn’t have to fight Golovkin at 160, says Robert Garcia

1-cotto-canelo (1)By Dan Ambrose: There is some disagreement about whether WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) should have to fight mandatory challenger Gennady Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) at the full weight for the middleweight division at 160lbs instead of at a catch-weight of his own personal choosing.

According to trainer Robert Garcia, Canelo does not have to fight Golovkin at 160. Garcia does not see any point in Canelo fighting Golovkin at 160, because he believes he can make more money fighting the Kazakhstan fighter in two or three years than he can right now.

Hopkins: Canelo-Golovkin will happen in September 2016

1-GolovkinLemieux_Hoganphotos1By Dan Ambrose: Bernard Hopkins of Golden Boy Promotions insists the middleweight clash between WBC belt holder Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) and his mandatory challenger Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) will definitely be taking place next year in September.

Hopkins is very confident that the fight will take place despite the concerns that many boxing fans have of it not for one reason or another.

Monroe: It’s ridiculous for people to want Golovkin vs. Mayweather

Boxing: Golovkin vs LemieuxBy Dan Ambrose: Middleweight Willie Monroe Jr. sees no point in some boxing fans wanting Floyd Mayweather Jr. to come out of retirement and face IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin. Monroe thinks there is a double standard. He feels that fans in the past jumped all over Bernard Hopkins when he was targeting smaller fighters like welterweights Oscar De La Hoya and Felix Trinidad when he was fighting in the middleweight division. But then Monroe sees that Golovkin isn’t being held to the same standards by being able to call for a fight against Mayweather without being skewered by the boxing public.

“It wouldn’t make sense,” Monroe said to Fighthype about Mayweather fighting Golovkin. “People ask so much of Floyd. You have to remember that guy started his career out at what? 125lbs. He’s 38-year-old.

My boxing awards: 2015

Floyd Mayweather JrBy Gav Duthie: As 2015 draws to a close we assess what boxing gave us for the year. Lots of big fights came to fruition that has passed us by in previous years and the promotional landscape changed dramatically with the emergence of PBC. This article discusses 10 different points to summarize the year.

1. Fighter of the year

Arthur Abraham

When looking into this I even surprised myself with my choice. Abraham wouldn’t even be a top 25 P4P fighter but he has had a tremendous year.

Floyd Mayweather’s Intentions

Floyd MayweatherBy Ali Lajiq: I am briefly writing in response to a great article written by honorable writer, Allan Fox stating as to why Floyd Mayweather Jr. suggests that WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez should duck his WBC mandatory challenger Gennady “GGG” Golovkin.

Mayweather Jr. is an intelligent human being inside the ring and an even smarter one outside. The actual reason as to why he suggests that Canelo should pass some time before taking the “Kazakh Thunder” fight is very obvious if only you throw on your very own pair of Floyd Money Mayweather shoes.

Mayweather says Canelo should duck Golovkin

1-cotto-canelo-m (9)By Allan Fox: Floyd Mayweather Jr. surprised the boxing world this week when he recommended that WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) should go ahead and duck his WBC #1 mandatory challenger Gennady Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) just because he considered him a tough opponent for the red-headed fighter. Mayweather thinks that because Canelo is coming off a difficult fight against Miguel Cotto (40-5, 33 KOs) last month in November, he shouldn’t have to fight Golovkin.

It’s kind of hard pill for a lot of fans to swallow seeing a potentially all-time great like Mayweather advocating that Canelo should duck his WBC mandatory Golovkin. It’s not the stuff of greatness for Mayweather to be openly saying that Canelo should avoid Golovkin because he could make it a difficult fight for him.

Monroe Jr: Canelo is too strong for Golovkin

1-canelo-cotto (4)By Dan Ambrose: Willie Monroe Jr. (19-2, 6 KOs) still believes that WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) is too fast and too strong for the 33-year-old IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady GGG Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs). Monroe Jr. has been singing the praises for the 25-year-old Canelo ever since Golovkin knocked him out in the 6th round earlier this year in May 2015 in a fight in which Golovkin dropped Monroe three times before the fight was halted.

Monroe feels that he had success at times with Golovkin, when the two of them were fighting in close on the inside. Monroe was able to land an occasional shot. However, it also looked like Golovkin was taking it easy on Monroe and not hitting him with full force like he had in the 2nd round of the fight, a round in which he knocked Monroe down twice.

Mayweather thinks Canelo is being rushed into Golovkin fight

golovkin5554(Photo credit: World Boxing Council) By Dan Ambrose: Promoter Floyd Mayweather Jr. doesn’t agree with Golden Boy Promotions quickly looking to match their franchise fighter WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) back into the ring to face unbeaten IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) in 2016 in what could be a really tough fight for the 25-year-old Canelo.

Mayweather does not like the idea of Golden Boy having Canelo fight another tough opponent after his recent win over 25-year-old Miguel Cotto last November in their fight on HBO pay-per-view.
