Khan approves of Brook facing Golovkin

khan836

By Patrick McHugh: Amir Khan likes the idea that IBF welterweight champion Kell “Special K” Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) is moving up in weight two divisions to take on unbeaten IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) in two months from now on September 10 at the O2 Arena in London, England.

Khan said on his social media site on Friday that he sees Brook’s move as a similar one that he made recently when he too moved up in weight to face a middleweight in former WBC champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on May 7 this year.

Khan fought well for five rounds, but was knocked unconscious in the 6th. However, Khan gained a great deal of respect in the boxing world for taking on such a dangerous opponent. What made it more impressive for Khan to take the challenge was his lighter weight. He’s a fighter that started his career out as a lightweight, and hasn’t been fighting at welterweight for very long.

Kell Brook: It’s time for me to shock the world!

brook8

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) lucked out by taking advantage of Chris Eubank Jr’s reluctance to agree to a fight against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 25 KOs) by stepping in agreeing to those very same terms to get a fight against him on September 10. Brook says he’s going to “shock the world” by beating the Kazakhstan fighter.

The Golovkin-Brook fight will be staged at the O2 Arena in London, England. Brook will have the hometown advantage. Whether that will help him or not is debatable. Having the hometown advantage can sometimes help when the fight goes to the scorecards, but I don’t see the Golovkin vs. Brook fight going to the cards.

Golovkin has knocked out everyone he’s faced for the last eight years of his pro career. He’s knocked out 22 consecutive opponents. Yeah, some of the guys Golovkin beat were fodder opponents, but many of them were good solid fighters. Golovkin stopped Matthew Macklin, David Lemieux, and Martin Murray.

Hearn: The Eubanks let deadline pass for Golovkin fight

eubank666

By Dan Ambrose: Chris Eubank Jr’s promoter Eddie Hearn says he gave him and his father Chris Eubank Sr. a deadline for them to agree to the contract terms for a fight against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin for a fight in September, but they let the deadline pass without agreeing to what he had asked them. You have to wonder whether Eubank Jr. and his father Chris Eubank Sr. were ever really serious about wanting to fight Golovkin. There are some who believe that they used this Golovkin fight opportunity for publicity purposes rather than have true interest in fighting him. They would have made a fortune if they had agreed to the contract and signed.

Hearn feels that the Eubanks might have thought he was bluffing when it came to his deadline. He wasn’t though. When the deadline passed, Hearn went ahead and offered the same deal terms that he had offered the Eubanks to IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook, and he readily agreed. So instead of Eubank Jr. fighting Golovkin next, it’ll be Brook fighting the Kazakhstan fighter on September 10 at the O2 Arena in London, England.

Loeffler says Eubank Jr. stalled in Golovkin negotiations

eubank9144

By Dan Ambrose: If you were wondering why IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) is the one that will be facing IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) on September 10 instead of #2 WBA, #2 WBC 160lb contender Chris Eubank Jr. (23-1, 18 KOs), it’s because Eubank Jr. stalled when it came to signing the contract for the Golovkin fight.

According to Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler, the contract was presented to Eubank Jr., but he didn’t sign. The same contract was taken by Eubank Jr’s promoter Eddie Hearn and presented to Brook, and he immediately agreed to the contract and signed. When you snooze you lose, and Eubank Jr. just missed out on a life-changing fight and payday.

Golovkin vs. Brook on September 10 in London, UK

golovkin4

By Scott Gilfoid: Taking a page from Amir Khan’s playbook, unbeaten IBF welterweight champion Kell “Special K” Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) will be moving up from 147 to face unbeaten IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) on September 10 at the O2 Arena in London, UK. This is real shocking news, as Golovkin was previously in negotiations with middleweight contender Chris Eubank Jr. (23-1, 18 KOs) to face him next in September.

LONDON (July 8, 2016) Matchroom Boxing and K2 Promotions are delighted to announce that Unified Middleweight World Champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin will defend his WBA, WBC, IBF and IBO Middleweight World titles against IBF Welterweight champion Kell Brook at The O2 in London on September 10, live on Sky Sports Box Office and Live on HBO World Championship Boxing®.

The two unbeaten stars collide in London with the US-based Kazakh KO king Golovkin stepping into the ring as a defending champion for the 16th time and looking to keep up his incredible knockout percentage – with 32 of his previous 35 fights ending early, including all of his World title outings and is ready to add to that run in his first fight in the UK.

Arreola: Golovkin’s a beast; no one is above him

Image: Arreola: Golovkin's a beast; no one is above him

By Patrick McHugh: Heavyweight contender Chris Arreola is one of IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s many fans, as he’s looking forward to his potential upcoming fight against Chris Eubank Jr. (23-1, 18 KOs) in September if the fight gets made. Arreola sees the fight as a stylistic match-up involving Golovkin’s “Mexican style” of fighting going up against Eubank Jr’s “boxer” style.

Arreola isn’t saying which of the two will win the fight, but it would seem that he believes Golovkin will do the job. Arreola sees GGG as the top pound-for-pound fighter in the sport right now. Eubank Jr. isn’t seen as the top guy by boxing fans. He’s more of an unfinished product with a lot of potential and a great of unknowns with his game.

Eubank Jr: Don’t worry! I’m waiting to sign contract for Golovkin

eubank149

By Scott Gilfoid: Chris Eubank Jr. (23-1, 18 KOs) says he has his pen in his hand and he’s ready and willing to sign the contract for a fight against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) as soon as he’s given the contract for him to sign. Presumably, Eubank Jr. is waiting for his promoter Eddie Hearn to send him the contract over. Hearn has been silent today, so he’s possibly working on the contract to get it ready to be signed.

Earlier on Wednesday, Golovkin sent out the following Tweet: “Everything agreed from our side, now waiting for Chris Eubank Jr, who all of a sudden has lost his pen.”

Roach: Golovkin must beat Ward to become #1 fighter

roach55

By Dan Ambrose: Trainer Freddie Roach doesn’t believe that IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin can be the guy that takes the baton from Floyd Mayweather Jr. to carry the sport of boxing on his back as the No.1 star. The main reason why Roach doubts that Golovkin can be the guy to take the reins from Mayweather is due to his lack of competition at middleweight.

There aren’t enough names for Golovkin to fight in the 160lb division for him to become a huge super star and the top pound-for-pound fighter. Roach thinks Golovkin needs to move up in weight to fight light heavyweight Andre Ward. He thinks that would be a good fight for Golovkin to prove himself as the top fighter in boxing.

Duck, dodge, dip, dive and…Duck?

Image: Duck, dodge, dip, dive and…Duck?

By Adam Godfrey: Ask any Boxing fan which two varieties of bird you can find in our beloved sport and they will all tell you the same thing; there is the kind that parade themselves, thankfully scantily clad, around the ring between rounds (for my American friends, consult a British neighbor). We like this kind of bird. And then there is the ‘Duck’. This bird is less affectionately thought of.

By reputation, these are the fighters who purport to desire a certain fight with a particular opponent, only to ‘Duck’ out at the last minute for ostensibly nefarious reasons; typically assumed to be physical or psychological fear of the opponent they, until the last moment before contracts are signed, claimed to covet.
