By Scott Gilfoid: Chris Eubank Jr. (23-1, 18 KOs) says he has his pen in his hand and he’s ready and willing to sign the contract for a fight against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) as soon as he’s given the contract for him to sign. Presumably, Eubank Jr. is waiting for his promoter Eddie Hearn to send him the contract over. Hearn has been silent today, so he’s possibly working on the contract to get it ready to be signed.

Earlier on Wednesday, Golovkin sent out the following Tweet: “Everything agreed from our side, now waiting for Chris Eubank Jr, who all of a sudden has lost his pen.”

Well, Eubank Jr. is talking as if he’s ready to ink the contract. Let’s see if he’s for real with his intentions. If he doesn’t sign the contract, then you only assume that he wasn’t up to it. By now, they’ve got to know whether the contract is to their liking or not. Eubank Jr. can’t ask for too much because he is after all the B-side in the equation. Golovkin is the one that is the multi-belt world title. He’s the one that has been a world champion for six years straight. He’s the one that has knocked out everyone he’s faced in the past eight years.

If Eubank Jr. doesn’t sign the contract, then Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler will go ahead and looking for a replacement opponent for GGG to fight in September. If Loeffler can get a talent like Tureano Johnson for Golovkin, I see as an improvement over Eubank Jr. I’m just saying. I think Johnson is an incredible talent, and the second best fighter in the division right now. I think Johnson would beat Daniel Jacobs, Peter Quillin, Eubank Jr. and Billy Joe Saunders without any problems. Whether he could get fights against those guys is a completely different matter altogether.

Golovkin wants to stay busy and fight as much as possible. Besides fighting in September, he wants to fight in December as well. As far as Saul “Canelo Alvarez goes, that’s a fight that could possibly take place in 2017 or more likely 2018. It really depends. If Golovkin looks sensational in 2017, then I see Canelo and his promoters at Golden Boy pushing the fight until 2018. If Golovkin looks good in 2018, then I believe they’ll push it to 2019. I think the fight will keep getting pushed into the future until the whole thing is a joke.
