Roach sees Mayweather Jr. having easy time beating Canelo on September 14th

Mayweather(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: Unlike a lot of people who see Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) as having to struggle to beat WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) in their fight on September 14th, trainer Freddie Roach sees this as an easy fight for Mayweather. Roach thinks Mayweather’s difficult to beat when he’s choosing to box his opposition rather giving them chances by choosing to mix it up.

Roach said in an interview with ewsnewsreporting.com “I think Mayweather wins easily. When he wants to box and he doesn’t take any chances, he’s very good at it. I think he’s going to win this fight easily.”

Roach sees Mayweather with few options for big fights after Canelo bout

floyd#31By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach feels that Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) may have very little choice but to fight his guy Manny Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38 KO’s) by next year after Mayweather’s September 14th fight against WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

Roach feels that Mayweather will be stuck fighting the likes of Devon Alexander after the Canelo bout, and he’ll be better off facing Pacquiao rather than taking fights like that.

Roach said to Fighthubtv “There are not four guys he [Mayweather] can fight without taking a Manny Pacquiao deal. Who’s he going to fight next, Devon Alexander? Come on.

Roach: A win for Pacquiao over Marquez will get us closer to a Mayweather fight

roach1By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach thinks the key to his fighter Manny Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38 KO’s) getting a long awaited mega fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) is if Pacquiao is able to get a 5th fight with Juan Manuel Marquez (55-6-1, 40 KO’s) and knock him out.

Roach thinks the boxing world will be impressed by that, and in turn Mayweather Jr. will agree to fight Pacquiao. It sounds like a lot of ifs and wishful thinking involved for Roach, because Pacquiao has his hands full just trying to get past his next opponent Brandon Rios on November 23rd without Roach looking past him towards a revenge match against Marquez.

Ariza: How can Roach fire me? I don’t work for him

ariza543By Chris Williams: Strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza was amused to learn that trainer Freddie Roach had fired him as Manny Pacquiao’s strength and conditioning coach. Ariza says he doesn’t even work for Roach, so there’s no way possible that he could fire him.

Ariza said to the Manila Standard “I haven’t heard anything from Manny. How can Freddie fire me when I don’t work for him? Everybody knows that the past two years I haven’t worked for Freddie. I will give Manny a call and talk to him, but you just never know.”

Ariza fired; Roach to run Pacquiao’s strength & conditioning program

ariza56 (2)By Chris Williams: As reportedly over the weekend, trainer Freddie Roach has reportedly fired strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza after meeting with Manny Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38 KO’s) to speak with him about problems he’d been having with him.

Roach now plans on taking over Ariza’s job as the strength and conditioning coach for Pacquiao in addition to being his trainer. According to Yahoo, Roach will be using Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in the Orange County area to help work on Pacquiao’s problems with leg cramps.

Roach doesn’t want fans to focus on Pacquiao’s recent losses

roach46By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach doesn’t think it’s productive for boxing fans to be looking at his fighter Manny Pacquiao’s recent back to back losses. Roach thinks those losses are part of history, and don’t give any idea of what’s to happen in the future with Manny.

Roach thinks Pacquiao’s fight against Brandon Rios (31-1-1, 23 KO’s) on November 23rd will be a completely different situation than from Pacquiao’s recent defeats to Juan Manuel Marquez and Tim Bradley.

Let’s hope Roach is right for Pacquiao’s sake, because he can’t keep getting beaten over and over again if he wants to continue to be a pay per view fighter. But worse than that, Pacquiao could get seriously hurt if he keeps getting planked.

Roach: I want Mayweather to step up and face Pacquiao

mayweather223By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach doesn’t seem to understand that Floyd Mayweather Jr. isn’t interested in facing his fighter Manny Pacquiao unless he’s willing to sign a contract with Mayweather Promotions to make the fight happen.

Mayweather already attempted to set up two fights with Pacquiao in the past, once in 2010 and another time last year, and he’s moved on. Roach is still after Mayweather to try and get him to agree to fight with the struggling Filipino fighter.

Roach said to Jenna Jay, “Well, I still want the biggest fight in the world. I want Mayweather to step up and fight Manny Pacquiao.

Cotto hoping Freddie Roach can improve him

cotto3e3432By Dan Ambrose: Miguel Cotto (37-4, 30 KO’s) is now being trained by Freddie Roach and he’s looking at fighting three more times before wrapping up his boxing career. Cotto will start training soon with Roach at the Wildcard Gym in Los Angeles, California for Cotto’s next fight against Delvin Rodriguez (28-6-3, 16 KO’s) in Florida.

Cotto, 32, is counting on Roach being able to improve his game. However, it’s not clear how much more Roach can get out of Cotto that hasn’t already been brought out by trainers Emanuel Steward and Pedro Diaz.

Cotto seems to be about as good as he’s going to get, and teaming up with Roach, a trainer known for his expertise in training offensive fighters, made not be enough to help Cotto from getting beaten when steps up against quality opposition.

Roach: Pacquiao isn’t losing because he’s getting old

pac6By Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38 KO’s) has lost his last two fights and he’s looking nothing like the form that he had back in 2009 when he beat Miguel Cotto by a 12th round TKO. Pacquiao is coming off a vicious 6th round KO at the hands of Juan Manuel Marquez last December, and before that, Pacquiao was beaten by Tim Bradley by a 12 round split decision in June of last year.

Pacquiao looked poor in both fights. However, Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach doesn’t think his losses are a result of him getting old. He thinks Pacquiao is still fighting well, and didn’t deserve the loss to Bradley.

Roach said to Yahoo Sports when asked if the soon to be 35-year-old Filipino is starting to wear down as a fighter, “None whatsoever, and I’d tell you if I did.
