Roach doesn’t want fans to focus on Pacquiao’s recent losses

roach46By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach doesn’t think it’s productive for boxing fans to be looking at his fighter Manny Pacquiao’s recent back to back losses. Roach thinks those losses are part of history, and don’t give any idea of what’s to happen in the future with Manny.

Roach thinks Pacquiao’s fight against Brandon Rios (31-1-1, 23 KO’s) on November 23rd will be a completely different situation than from Pacquiao’s recent defeats to Juan Manuel Marquez and Tim Bradley.

Let’s hope Roach is right for Pacquiao’s sake, because he can’t keep getting beaten over and over again if he wants to continue to be a pay per view fighter. But worse than that, Pacquiao could get seriously hurt if he keeps getting planked.

Roach said to China Daily “The past is the past. You just have to let it go and reload for the next one. Manny’s the ultimate professional. He’s not bothered by the stuff happening around him. He’s always focused, always aware of what he needs to do when he needs to do it. You don’t accomplish what Manny has accomplished by second-guessing yourself or saying could have, should have, would have.”

Roach is describing Pacquiao like he’s omnipotent. I think Roach needs to sit down with a big cup of coffee and take a good look and Pacquiao’s last two fights with a clear head so that he can start seeing the seriousness of Pacquiao’s predicament. He was just knocked out cold in a brutal fashion by Marquez last December in the type of manner that often causes fighters to suffer additional concussions in the future.

Maybe Pacquiao will be lucky and won’t get knocked out again, but I think it’s important that you at least think about danger involved for him in this fight with Rios. To just say ‘forget about the past’ is ignorant because with a fighter that was knocked like Pacquiao, it’s important to remember the past so that he doesn’t keep getting planked in the future.

Instead of telling boxing fans to forget how Pacquiao is starting to take losses one after another, Roach should be trying to teach Pacquiao some defense so he won’t get hit so easily. He’s too easy to hit, and he’s already coming off of a serious knockout.
