By Eric Thomas: WBO super flyweight interim champion Nonito Donaire (24-1, 16 KO’s) will be moving up in weight to take on World Boxing Council bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel (41-2-2, 31 KO’s) in November, according to Badlefthook.com. Donaire, 27, revealed the information on his Facebook page, saying that his promoter Bob Arum is putting the finishing touches on a fight between him and Montiel.

By Sean McDaniel: Nonito Donaire (22-1, 14 KO’s) needs another opponent for this Saturday’s bout at the Las Vegas Hilton, in Las Vegas, Nevada. His opponent Gerson Guerrero (34-8, 26 KO’s) failed the medical exam for the fight after a detached retina turned up during the eye exam earlier Wednesday. Donaire-Guerrero was supposed to be the main event of the pay-per-view Latin Fury 13/Pinoy Power 3 card.
Montiel-Valdez Fight to a Draw, Castillo, Nietes, Gorres & Rios all victorious
By Jim Dower: World Boxing Organization bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel (39-2-2, 29 KOs) fought to a 3rd round technical draw against Alejandro Valdez (22-2-3, 15 KOs) in a non-title fight on Saturday night at the El Palenque de la Feria, Tepic, in Nayarit, Mexico. Montiel, 30, was cut above his left eye in the 1st round from a punch rather than a head butt. The cut was a bad one, making it hard for Montiel to see much of the time and putting him on the defensive in both the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

Montiel, 30, knocked Silva down three times in the fight, once in the 2nd and two more times in the 3rd.

Montiel Destroys Castillo
By Manuel Perez: WBO super flyweight champion Fernando Montiel (36-2-1, 27 KOs) overwhelmed former WBA super flyweight champion Martin Castillo (33-3, 17 KOs), stopping him in the fourth round on Saturday night at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Castillo, 31, looked listless and out of it as early as the first round, as was quickly knocked down by a left hook by Montiel. Castillo was staggered at the end of the 3rd round after getting hit with a big left hook from Montiel. Castillo was hurt again in the fourth round by a right hand, and then retreated to the ropes where Montiel hit with with combination and then left hook the body, dropping Castillo for the 10 count. Referee Joe Cortez stopped the fight at 1:56 of the 4th round.
