chavez46461Five of Mexico’s biggest names in boxing converge for the first time, headlining the same boxing card! Top Rank presents “Latin Fury 8 — Tijuana Thunder,” broadcast Live on Pay-Per-View from Tijuana, Mexico on March 28. The five-bout pay-per-view extravaganza will feature undefeated super welterweight sensation JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ, Jr., WBC super featherweight champion HUMBERTO SOTO, WBO junior bantamweight champion FERNANDO MONTIEL, two-time WBC lightweight champion JOSE LUIS CASTILLO, and top-rated junior flyweight contender GIOVANI SEGURA in separate bouts. Combined, these five warriors have a combined record of 198-19-6 (150 KOs) — a winning percentage of 89% and a victory by knockout ratio of 79%.

“From top to bottom, this is the greatest Mexican boxing event ever and I’m proud to be promoting it. Four title fights plus Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. versus Luciano Cuello in a battle of undefeated contenders in the main event,” said Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum, chairman of Top Rank.

Chavez Jr. (38-0-1, 29 KOs), of Culiacan, Mexico and son of the legendary Julio Cesar Chavez, will be making his 2009 debut. Now world-rated a career high No. 4 by the WBC, he’ll be risking everything when he rumbles with former WBO Latino junior middleweight champion and undefeated LUCIANO CUELLO (23-0, 9 KOs), of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

“CIVIL WAR” SHOWDOWN WEDNESDAY AT RENO PRESS CONFERENCE, BRINKLEY AND GILBERT FACE TO FACE AT HIGH NOON

Just three days before their long awaited showdown at “CIVIL WAR”, super middleweights Jesse Brinkley and Joey Gilbert will once again be face to face at the final press conference on Wednesday, February 11th, at the Showroom Theater in the Eldorado Hotel and Casino.

Doors to the public press conference will open at 11:30am. The Eldorado Report and Casino is located at 345 N. Virginia St. (corner of Fourth and Virginia ) in Reno , Nevada .

As at the initial press conference announcing the fight on Thursday, December 11th, the tension in the room should be fully evident as the two fighters look to finally settle their grudge this Saturday, February 14th.

Presented by Reno ‘s “Let’s Get It On” Promotions and Las Vegas based TKO BOXING Promotions, “CIVIL WAR” features the long awaited showdown between super middleweights Jesse Brinkley of Yerington , NV and Reno ‘s Joey Gilbert set for Saturday, February 14th at the Reno Events Center . The twelve round bout is for Brinkley’s WBC USNBC world title.

Tecate brings “caracter” to Texas next Feb. 28

Tecate, cerveza con carácter, announced today plans to launch a regional marketing campaign designed to bring boxing fans in Houston closer to the Feb. 28 encounter between former World Feather and Junior Lightweight Champion Juan Manuel Marquez (49-4-1, 36 KO’s) and the current three-time winner of the Lightweight title, Juan Diaz (34-1, 17 KO’s). The Ring Magazine World Lightweight Championship will be broadcast on HBO’s “World Championship Boxing” (7:00 p.m. PT/10:00 p.m. ET) live from the Toyota Center in the largest city in Texas.
