Arreola: We have a plan to bring Deontay’s weaknesses out

arreola8888

(Jennifer Halger/DiBella Entertainment/Premier Boxing Champions) By Patrick McHugh: Chris Arreola (36-4-1, 31 KOs) says he has a game plan designed to bring out the weaknesses’ in WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder’s game this Saturday night in their fight at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama. Arreola recently said that he needs to get inside the tall 6’’7” Wilder’s long reach to prevent him from loading up on his shots the way that he likes/needs to in his fights for him to be successful. Arreola’s arms are shorter than Wilder’s, and needs to be closer for him to get maximum power on his shots, especially with his left hook.

“Weaknesses are something that I have to bring out of Deontay. Someone different shows up every fight,” Arreola. “We have a plan but we’ll have to expose him while I’m in the ring. You can see videos all day, but it might not be the same guy in the ring.”

deontay75

This fight has the makings of a fight of the year candidate on paper, because it matches two of the hardest punchers in the heavyweight division at this time. What makes the Wilder-Arreola fight so appealing is that neither of these guys has a backwards gear.

Arreola says Fury No.1 heavyweight, not Deontay

arreola1111

By Scott Gilfoid: Chris Arreola says he thinks IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury is the top heavyweight in the division. He points to Fury’s experience in beating Wladimir Klitschko last November that sets him apart from the other heavyweights in the division.

Arreola says the other top heavyweights like WBC champion Deontay Wilder and IBF bet holder Anthony Joshua haven’t beaten anyone of distinction yet for him to consider either of them as the #1 guy at heavyweight.

Chris Arreola: “I want that [WBC] title!”

wilder3

By Dan Ambrose: Former two-time world title challenger Chris Arreola (36-4-1, 31 KOs) wants WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder’s title more than anything as they head towards their fight in 10 days from now on July 16 at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

If Arreola can win the WBC off Wilder, he can set himself up for a big money fight against either IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua of IBO/WBA/WBO champion Tyson Fury. It would be life changing money that Arreola would make from either of those guys.

Managing a fighter’s rise

Image: Managing a fighter's rise

By Scott Bells: I often read posts which talk about promoters and fighters taking easy fights and avoiding certain fighters to protect their unbeaten record. I thought it would be interesting to look at how a young fighter truly should get delivered and offer some insight into the thinking behind the development of a fighter. I will use a number of examples, but will cite heavyweight titlists Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua throughout as they are two unbeaten titlists who often get criticism for their opponents.

When a fighter starts off in the pro game the objective for a manager needs to be to help develop their technical ability in the ring, expose them to fight night and the fight in the ring under the lights and, of course protect their unbeaten record at every opportunity.

Joshua picks Fury to beat Wladimir, Wilder over Arreola

joshua854

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (17-0, 17 KOs) still doesn’t know who his next opponent will be in November or December, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to be his IBF mandatory challenger Joseph Parker. In the meantime, Joshua gave his two cents on the heavyweight clashes matching WBC champion Deontay Wilder vs. challenger Chris Arreola on July 16, and the rematch between IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

Joshua picks Wilder to beat the 35-year-old Arreola, and Fury to defeat the 40-year-old Wlladimir a second time. Joshua believes that Arreola will be a good test for Wilder to see where he’s at.

Wilder vs. Arreola to be tested by VADA

wilder9

By Allan Fox: For WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder’s next defense against 35-year-old Chris Arreola, the two fighters will be tested by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency [VADA] to be tested for banned drugs all the way up until their fight on July 16 at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

With the Wilder-Arreola fight being a little more than two and a half weeks to go, there isn’t much time for VADA to test the two fighters before they meet up next month. The Wilder-Arreola fight will be televised on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox and Fox Deportes. It should be an interesting fight for as long as it lasts.
