Demetrius Andrade wants Canelo’s scalp

andrade777By Dan Ambrose: WBO junior middleweight champion Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade (21-0, 14 KO’s) saw Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (44-1-1, 31 KOs) struggle his way to a controversial 12 round split decision over Erislandy Lara last Saturday night in their fight at middleweight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Andrade is ready to give Canelo a beating in order to add his scalp to his growing resume.

Canelo is ranked at #2 by the WBO behind Andrade’s recent knockout victim Brian Rose. Andrade is more than willing to give Canelo a shot at his title if he’s up to the task.

Demetrius Andrade: I’m the best in the world

andrade76666By Scott Gilfoid: After his impressive 7th round demolition job on #1 WBO Brian Rose (25-2-1, 7 KO’s) last Saturday night, WBO junior middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade (21-0, 14 KO’s) sees himself as the best fighter in the 154-pound division bar none. With the way the 6’1” Andrade looked against Rose and his previous opponent Vanes Martirosyan, it’s hard to disagree that Andrade isn’t the best guy in the division.

Erislandy Lara, the WBA junior middleweight champ, is seen by many boxing fans to be the best fighter in the 154lb division, but Andrade did a better job of beating Martirosyan than Lara did, and that kind of tells you that Andrade could be No.1.

Demetrius Andrade can be WBO champion for a long time, says Andre Ward

andrade777By Scott Gilfoid: Last night was WBO light middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade’s coming out party on HBO with him giving a beat down to challenger Brian Rose (25-2-1, 7 KO’s) in stopping him in 7 rounds on the undercard of the Ruslan Provodnikov vs. Chris Algieri card at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

We saw the 6’1” Andrade showcase his talents with him opening up his toolbox of weaponry and unloading on an over-matched Rose with everything he had. Credit Rose for being able to soak up sickening punishment until his corner pulled the plug on the fight in the 7th round and had it stopped at 1:19 by referee Michael Griffin.

Hearn: Brian Rose will be back

rose123By Scott Gilfoid: Promoter Eddie Hearn thinks that his fighter #1 WBO Brian Rose (25-2-1, 7 KO’s) will learn from his defeat at the hands of WBO junior middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade (21-0, 14 KO’s) and return back to the top in the future.

Rose was knocked down twice by Andrade last night and stopped on his feet in the 7th round in their fight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Rose had talked about having earned his No.1 ranking and his title shot.

Rose had said that he wasn’t impressed with Andrade beforehand and that it was him with all the pressure on his shoulder. But unfortunately for Rose, he failed to prove that he belonged in the same ring with him.

Andrade destroys Rose

andrade66By Scott Gilfoid: In an embarrassingly one-sided fight from start to finish, WBO junior middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade (21-0, 14 KO’s) totally dominated the over-matched #1 WBO challenger Brian Rose (25-2-1, 7 KO’s) in stopping him in the 7th round on Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

As I predicted earlier, Rose had no business being in the ring with Andrade tonight. As good as Andrade looked tonight, I wouldn’t have been surprised if he could have beaten Carl Froch and George Groves with the way he was fighting. Andrade was incredible tonight. The talent that he showed in nailing Rose at will with straight lefts. We saw a coming out party for a young star tonight. Andrade looked good enough to give Floyd Mayweather Jr, Erislandy Lara and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez all they could handle.

Purses: Provodnikov $750k, Algieri $100k, Andrade $200k, Rose $100k

provo5By Dan Ambrose: Dan Rafael of ESPN is reporting that WBO light welterweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov (23-2, 16 KO’s) will be receiving $750,000 for his title defense tonight against fringe contender Chris Algieri (19-0, 8 KO’s) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Algieri will be getting a mere $100,000 as the challenger.

In the co-feature, WBO light middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade (20-0, 13 KO’s) will be getting $200,000 in his fight against British challenger Brian Rose (25-1-1, 7 KO’s). For his part, Rose will be getting $100,000, which is the exact same amount as Algieri is getting in the main event. It doesn’t make much sense for Algieri and Rose to be getting the same amount when one of them is in the main even and the other on undercard.

It’s easy to see why Provodnikov wants to get a fight against Manny Pacquiao so badly. If he can win tonight and look good against Algieri, Provodnikov could make as much as $5 million in a fight against Pacquiao. That money would go far in Beryozovo, Russia, which is where Provodnikov lives.

Andrade-Rose: Levels of expectation

andrade7(Photo credit: Ed Mulholland/HBO) By Daniel Hughes: Brian Rose (27-1-1, 7 KO’s) has a really tough ask ahead of him to claim the WBO light-middleweight title tonight from Demetrius Andrade (20-0, 13 KO’s) at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York. Boxing is about levels and this is a real step up away from home for the Blackpool fighter from the UK.

Andrade is the decorated amateur, who won the world amateur championships in 2007 at welterweight. Andrade’s career as a pro has proved to be a smooth ride generally baring the knockdown he suffered in the 1st round against Vanes Martirosyan in his last fight.

Brian Rose: I deserve everything I get

andrade53(Photo credit: Ed Mulholland/HBO) By Scott Gilfoid: #1 WBO Brian Rose (25-1-1, 7 KO’s) feels that he’s earned the right to challenge WBO junior middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade (20-0, 13 KO’s) tonight at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York. Rose seems to be talking himself up for some reason. It looks like some people are saying that he didn’t do enough to deserve the title shot tonight against Andrade given that Rose’s wins over Javier Maciel and Prince Arron were controversial ones.

“I deserve everything I get. I have worked hard throughout my career to get to this stage,” Rose said to Skysports.com. “I deserve my shot. I’m going to enjoy every moment of it. I knew he would gob off in the weigh-in. That is what he has done but the pressure is all on his shoulders. The pressure is not on my shoulders.”

Brian Rose: I’m positive I’m going home with Andrade’s world title on Saturday

rose22(Photo credit: Ed Mulholland/HBO) By Scott Gilfoid: #1 WBO mandatory contender Brian Rose (25-1-1, 7 KO’s) says he’s going to take unbeaten WBO junior middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade’s strap from him on Saturday night in their long-awaited clash at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Rose has been pining away for that WBO strap for ages now, and he doesn’t like the idea that much of the boxing world sees him as little more than a sacrificial lamb being brought in for Andrade to slaughter in front of a large crowd at the Barclays Center.

Andrade weighed in at 153.8lbs, whereas challenger Brian Rose came in at 153.4.

The Provodnikov-Algieri fight should be an interesting match-up due to the contrast in styles, and due to what’s at stake potentially for the Russian born Provodnikov should he win.
