Lucas Matthysse vs. DeMarcus Corley on 1/21

Image: Lucas Matthysse vs. DeMarcus Corley on 1/21By Jim Dower: Light welterweight contender Lucas Martin Matthysse (27-1, 25 KO’s) will be returning to the ring next month against former light welterweight champion DeMarcus Corley (37-15-1, 22 KO’s) in a 10 round stay busy fight at the Auditorio Angel Bustelo, Mendoza, Mendoza, Argentina. Matthysse, 28, lost a questionable 12 round split decision to the better known Zab Judah in November in a fight that took place in New Jersey, not far from where Judah lives. Matthysse knocked Judah to the canvas in the 10th, and had him on the run in the last three rounds while pelting him with powerful punches to the head and body.

Maidana didn’t look all that bad against Corley – He still wipes out Khan

By Scott Gilfoid: After hearing a lot about how bad Marcos Maidana was supposed to be against DeMarcus Corley last weekend, I expected utter garbage from Maidana when I finally got the chance to see the fight. But I was frankly impressed with him. Maidana showed excellent power throughout the fight and should have won the easier than he did if the referee had taken points away from Corley for his constant fouls. I saw a lot of ugly fouling form Corley, such as leading his head, hitting on the break, grabbing Maidana in a head lock and then tagging him in the face.

Maidana looks awful in beating Corley – So will Khan fight Maidana now?

By William Mackay: If there ever was a time where I think WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan might choose to fight WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s), I think this may be the occasion. Maidana fought and defeated former WBO light welterweight champion DeMarcus Corley (37-14-1, 22 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision on Saturday night at the Estadio Luna Park, Buenos Aires, Distrito Federal, Argentina. This was not a fight where Maidana looked good. Indeed, Maidana looked like the same fighter that was beaten by Andriy Kotelnik last year. In other words, Maidana looked terrible.

Maidana decisions Corley, fails to impress

By Jim Dower: World Boxing Association light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s) failed to make a case for himself on Saturday night that he deserves a shot against WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan. Maidana, 27, struggled to beat 36-year-old former WBO light welterweight champion DeMarcus Corley (37-14-1, 22 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision at the Estadio Luna Park, Buenos Aires, Distrito Federal, Argentina. The final judges’ scores were 117-110, 115-112 and 116-110. Maidana looked poor throughout this fight and he should be grateful that Corley wasn’t five or six years younger, because he likely would have won this fight.

Maidana has to beat Corley on Saturday to get Khan fight in December

Image: Maidana has to beat Corley on Saturday to get Khan fight in DecemberBy Jason Kim: Now that Juan Manuel Marquez has decided to stay at lightweight and fight WBO lightweight interim champion Michael Katsidis instead of Amir Khan, this leaves World Boxing Association light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (28-1, 27 KO’s) in an ideal position to get a big money fight against Khan on December 11th, provided that Maidana gets by his opponent this Saturday night, former World Boxing Organization light welterweight champion DeMarcus Corley (37-13-1, 22 KO’s) in their 12 round fight at the Estadio Luna Park, Buenos Aires, Distrito Federal, Argentina.
