Lemieux: I’m going to hurt Golovkin

1-GGGLemieuxFinalPC_Hoganphotos8By Dan Ambrose: IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) is seen by a lot of fans of the sport to be the token sacrificial lamb for IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) to slaughter this Saturday night.

Fans don’t believe that Lemieux has much of a chance in this fight because of his two past defeats from 2011, and because of his youth and relative experience. The experience, amateur pedigree and the defensive skills are all in Golovkin’s favor in this fight.

Golovkin will not be the King

1-golovkin (7)By Reveriano: I would like to begin this piece by reminding the viewer that I was a fan of IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) before it was popular to be a fan. I argued a few weeks ago that the only opponent that Floyd Mayweather Jr could choose for his last fight would persuade me to pay would be GGG. I would also like to state that I am extremely excited about this upcoming match.

I think it will be extremely entertaining and fun to watch. But at no point am I convinced, under the illusion, or believe that GGG will be the next PPV King.

What Changes if Golovkin-Lemieux Exceeds Expectations?

YouTube video

By Michael Montero: Boxing fans are buzzing about the big card this Saturday night, as the “Big Drama Show” (Golovkin-Lemieux) and “Little Drama Show” (Gonzalez-Viloria) one-two punch takes over New York City. But can the HBO Boxing pay-per-view event – a joint promotional venture between K2 and Golden Boy – exceed not only the lofty expectations of action inside the ring, but profitable business outside of it? A lot of potential money and negotiating power is on the line depending on whether the card is a box office hit or a dud. What are the implications either way? Let’s take a look.

Golovkin could replace Mayweather as boxing’s No.1 star

YouTube video

By Jim Dower: Gennady GGG Golovkin could be within one or two wins away from taking Floyd Mayweather Jr’s spot as the No.1 fighter in all of boxing. David Lemieux is little more than a prop for Golovkin, a step stone to get him to where he wants to be the pecking order. Golovkin is in a great situation where he’ll take the No.1 spot potentially by default even if the winner of the Saul Canelo Alvarez vs. Miguel Cotto fight chooses not to fight him.

If they don’t fight him, the boxing world will see them ducking GGG and then the WBC title will be stripped from the winner of that fight. Whether the title is stripped or the vacate it, Golovkin stands to gain from it.

Froch fight still interests GGG, says Loeffler

froch7999By Scott Gilfoid: Tom Loeffler, the promoter for IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs), says they would definitely be interested in a fight against former super middleweight champion Carl Froch (33-2, 24 KOs) if he British fighter comes out of retirement to face him.

A fight between Golovkin and Froch was being talked about last year, but then Froch chose to retire rather than take the dangerous fight. Some boxing fans feel that Froch chickened out because of the risk that he’d get knocked out, and his legacy would be tarnished. I guess only Froch knows.

By Dan Ambrose: IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) says he doesn’t care that people see him as the underdog in his unification fight against IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) this Saturday night.

Lemieux, 26, says as far as he’s concerned, he’s not an underdog in this fight. He believes he’s going to beat the 33-year-old Golovkin and take his two titles back to Canada after the fight.

Lemieux to try and box Golovkin

1-GGGLemieuxFinalPC_Hoganphotos10By Tim Fletcher: Contrary to the public perception of IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) likely to come out slugging this Saturday when he gets inside the ring with IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs), Lemieux is saying that he can’t come out swinging for the fences in this fight because it’s not the right strategy for him to win this fight.

Lemieux says that he’s treating the Golovkin fight as a game of chess, and will be fighting smart on Saturday when the two get inside the ring in front of a sold out Madison Square Garden. The fight will be televised on HBO pay-per-view.

Sanchez: Gennady’s IQ is higher than Lemieux’s

YouTube video

By Tim Fletcher: Abel Sanchez, the trainer for IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “Triple G” Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) thinks that his important match against David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KO) this Saturday night will come down to Golovkin’s boxing IQ, which he feels is a lot higher than the 26-year-old Lemieux.

Sanchez respects Lemieux’s punching power, but he doesn’t rate him high as far as his ring intelligence goes. Sanchez sees the Canadian Lemieux as little more than a George Foreman type banger, a fighter who goes out there and tries to wear down his opponents with his looping shots to the head and body.
