Hearn says Froch asked him about Golovkin

froch456667By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn says former IBF/WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (33-2, 24 KOs) called him recently to ask him questions about the talented IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs).

Hearn didn’t say why Froch was asking him questions about Golovkin, but he thinks that he still secretly wants to keep fighting, which could be why he’s asking him specifically about the hard hitting Kazakhstan fighter.

Froch to return for Golovkin?

froch552By Matt Plumridge: Carl “the Cobra” Froch (33-2, 24 early) could be in line for a return to the ring to take on the current sensation of a generation Gennady Golovkin, in what would rank as a 2016 super-fight.

Froch, who has only just announced his retirement and has recently talked up his chances of beating Golovkin, has long been motivated by his legacy and proving his greatness and winning this sort of fight would certainly help elevate Froch onto many all-time lists.

Froch fight still interests GGG, says Loeffler

froch7999By Scott Gilfoid: Tom Loeffler, the promoter for IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs), says they would definitely be interested in a fight against former super middleweight champion Carl Froch (33-2, 24 KOs) if he British fighter comes out of retirement to face him.

A fight between Golovkin and Froch was being talked about last year, but then Froch chose to retire rather than take the dangerous fight. Some boxing fans feel that Froch chickened out because of the risk that he’d get knocked out, and his legacy would be tarnished. I guess only Froch knows.

Froch: DeGale in no-win situation with Bute

degale785By Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale (21-1, 14 KOs) is in kind of a no-win situation with his upcoming first title defense against a past his best 35-year-old former IBF 168lb champ Lucian Bute (32-2, 25 KOs) on November 28th at the Centre Videotron, in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada.

Bute is considered to be over-the-hill by a lot of boxing fans, and he was previously whipped by Carl Froch in five rounds three years ago in 2012. Froch thinks that DeGale is in an impossible situation with the Bute fight.

If he beats him, boxing fans will compare his performance to that of Froch. If DeGale can’t measure up to the standard that Froch set in defeating Bute, then people won’t be impressed. If DeGale does destroy Bute, then some fans will make little of the win because they’ll think that Froch softened Bute up three years ago in beating him in 2012.

Froch: Broner can’t back it up in the ring

Image: Froch: Broner can’t back it up in the ringBy Scott Gilfoid: Former super middleweight champion Carl Froch thinks that former three division world champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner (30-2, 22 KOs) is a Floyd Mayweather Jr. imitator who can’t back it up in the ring.

Froch sees Broner as being little more than a clown at best, and he’s not impressed with him as a fighter. Froch doesn’t believe that the talented 26-year-old Broner is the real deal. You can’t argue with the success that this young talent has had.

Froch: Klitschko could be rattled

YouTube video

By Scott Gilfoid: Former super middleweight champion Carl Froch thinks that IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko may have been rattled by British challenger Tyson Fury’s recent behavior last week in their London, England press conference, and Froch thinks that it’s possible that Klitschko’s subsequent left calf injury may be a move for him to regain control of the situation somehow.

Froch finds it rather odd that Wladimir’s past injuries, including this latest one, are injuries that are difficult to prove. Wladimir has postponed fights due to bicep and abdominal injuries, and now he’s got a calf muscle/tendon injury.

Froch: I wouldn’t put Golovkin in my top 10 P4P

froch564By Scott Gilfoid: Former IBF/WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch kicked sand in the face of IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) by saying that he wouldn’t put him in his top 10 pound for pound list in boxing right now due to Froch not being satisfied with the hard hitting Golovkin’s resume.

What’s interesting is that Froch doesn’t see Golovkin as even a top 10 fighter in the p4p list despite the boxing fans largely seeing Golovkin as the No.1 guy now. If Froch has problems with Golovkin’s resume due to him not having fought a lot of high caliber fighter, he should blame himself for that.

Cornish will give Joshua a real test, says Froch

YouTube video

By Scott Gilfoid: On paper, the 6’7” Gary Cornish (21-0, 12 KOs) is little more than just the usual 3rd tier fodder opponent like the previous 13 other weak fodder opponents that British heavyweight Anthony Joshua (13-0, 13 KOs) has padded his record with since he first turned pro in 2013 after winning a controversial gold medal in the 2012 London Olympics. But in the mind of former IBF/WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch, the 28-year-old Cornish will be a real test for the 6’6” Joshua.

DeGale and Groves are “as poor as each other” says Carl Froch

DeGale’s performance against “a poor Dirrell” did not impress him

Wants both fighters to “punch each other’s heads in for twelve rounds”

A number of months ago, George Groves promised James DeGale that he would fight him if he managed to defeat Andre Dirrell in a fight for the vacant IBF Super-Middleweight title, something DeGale went on to do on May 23rd.

If Groves himself manages to gain the WBC Super-Middleweight belt from Badou Jack when he fights him on Saturday, the showdown between the two brits is bound to take place. However, four time world champion Carl Froch, who famously beat George Groves twice, does not rate either of the fighters.

In an exclusive interview with Lonsdale he said: “I think they’re both equally as poor as each other.

Froch wants Groves to beat Jack, thinks it will make him look better

groves566By Scott Gilfoid: The retired Carl Froch says he wouldn’t mind it so much if No.1 WBC George Groves (21-2, 16 KOs) defeats WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack (19-1-1, 12 KOs) in their fight in a little over two weeks on September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Froch figures that if Groves defeats Jack, it will help make his own career look better because he whipped Groves twice by knockout in 2013 and 2014. Unfortunately, I don’t see it that way. I mean, if Groves defeats Jack, I don’t the boxing public will give a fig about the victory or about how Froch previously defeated Groves a couple of times.
