Groves: Froch will soon be forgotten

_DSC1036(Photo credit: Idris Erba) By Scott Gilfoid: If former IBF/WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch was hoping that he would be remembered by boxing fans for a long time after he’s retired gone away from the sport, he needs to talk with #1 WBC George Groves (21-2, 16 KOs), because he believe that Froch will be forgotten very soon by fans now that he’s stepped away from the sport to exist in retirement.

Groves says he doesn’t like Froch, who beat him twice by knockout. Groves says that at the end of Froch’s career, he was trying to handpick opponents to fight and wound up being stripped of his WBA title and had to vacate his IBF title.

Froch says he lost motivation after Chavez Jr. fight didn’t happen

YouTube video

By Scott Gilfoid: Up until recently, former 168lb world title holder Carl Froch really had his eyes set on wanting a fight against former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Froch had dreams of facing the weight plagued Chavez Jr. in Las Vegas, Nevada, under the lights. Froch thought it would be a big deal to fight Chavez Jr., but it failed to happen after Chavez Jr. was trounced by Andrzej Fonfara last April.

Reasons for why British boxing can dominate the global scene

joshua66By Erhan Bora: Many editors and commentators within the sport doubt the credentials of many British stars, but the evidence would suggest that fighters from a smaller land mass than an American state can dominate for years to come. Albeit the cruiserweights and light heavyweight divisions, British has talent holding or challenging for top honors.

Starting with the heavyweight division by the end of the year unbeaten talent Tyson Fury will be challenging Wladimir Klitschko for three world titles, which if he wins could see an all British clash against WBC #2, WBA #13, IBF #14 and WBO #3 ranked Anthony Joshua.
To address the doubts, Fury has the artillery that Jennings & company have lacked with his height advantage, orthodox/southpaw versatility and boxing skills.

My top three Carl Froch fight nights

froch3232By Gav Duthie: We often look back at boxers of yesteryear with rose tinted spectacles. Every fighter during his career is open to criticism i.e. not fast enough, not powerful enough, no chin, one dimensional, not fighting the best etc. When you retire most of those questions disappear. All you can do is look at what they have done, limitations or not and assess.

Carl Froch 33-2 (24) has decided to call it a day instead of fighting Gennady Golovkin and after all is said in done I would like to thank Carl Froch for entertaining us over the past decade at least. Ive criticized Carl many times for his limitations many of which he would admit too himself but very few fighters could expose them over a full 12 rounds.

Does Froch deserve to be in the Boxing Hall of Fame?

froch1111By Scott Gilfoid: Now that former super middleweight champion Carl Froch (33-2, 24 KOs) has hung up his gloves for however long before we likely see the obligatory comeback fight, the question is does Froch deserve to be in the boxing Hall of Fame based on what he’s accomplished during his 13 year pro career.

I don’t right off hand that the 38-year-old Froch has done enough to rate getting the nod for the boxing HOF. You can’t make it too easy to get in the Hall of Fame for any sport, because once you start voting guys in for getting victories over the likes of Lucian Bute and a shot Mikkel Kessler, the you cheapen the accomplishment thing.

Will Froch be remembered for being too big too strong for Golovkin?

froch#5By Gerardo Granados: WBA/IBF Super Middleweight Champion Carl Froch W33(24)-L2-D0 announced his retirement today and a friend of mine asked me if he was going to be remembered as one of the greatest British boxers or would he be remembered for have avoided GGG Golovkin. Just a week ago Froch posted on twitter a photo of him saying he was too big too strong for Gennady which lead to an argument with ESPN boxing analyst Dan Rafael, even today Rafael twitted a farewell retirement to Froch.

It seems like we will never know if The Cobra was really too big too strong for today’s best middleweight GGG Golovkin; but when the champion is challenged then he cannot be asked for any catch weight conditioning the bout.

Andre Ward approves of Froch retiring with money/faculties intact

ward56By Scott Gilfoid: WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward has no problems with the way that former IBF/WBA/WBC 168lb champ Carl Froch retired today in getting out of the sport with a bundle of money and mental faculties still intact after a 13-year pro career. Ward thinks it’s a good thing that Froch retired now rather than waiting until he was on the slide with his career.

Ward defeated Froch four years ago in what some feel was Froch’s last against a top guy. Froch lost by a 12 round decision against what was essentially a one-handed Ward, as he’s suffered a fractured hand in training camp for the fight, and he didn’t want to cancel the fight.

Groves not surprised at Froch retiring

froch5629By Scott Gilfoid: Former two time world title challenger George Groves (21-2, 16 KOs) says he’s not surprised that Carl Froch (33-2, 24 KOs) is stepping away from the game at the age of 38. Groves noted that Froch really hadn’t been involved in the sport of boxing following his second win over him last year in May 2014, and he figured that his retirement was going to be on its way after that.

Groves feels that Froch will be remembered for the controversy from their first match-up in 2013, in which the referee Howard John Foster suddenly jumped in between them in the 9th round and halted the fight despite the fact that Groves was still fighting back and seemingly in control of his facilities.

Carl Froch retires, no Golovkin fight

By Scott Gilfoid: After enticing the boxing world with the possibility of fighting unbeaten knockout artist Gennady Golovkin in a fight that would have made millions, former IBF/WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (33-2, 24 KOs) has opted to retire rather than stay on and take a fight that would have been a risky one but very profitable. The 38-year-old Froch announced his retirement today on his Twitter account, saying that he’s “officially retired.”

Rafael tells Froch, “Calzaghe would have fought GGG”

golovkin64By Scott Gilfoid: In the brief war of words that were exchanged between former super middleweight strap holder Car Froch and ESPN writer Dan Rafael last weekend, Rafael appears to have gotten the better of Froch by shaming him for name dropping Gennady Golovkin’s name without committing to a fight against him.

After Rafael told Froch to keep silent about Golovkin if he’s not really interested in fighting him, Rafael finished with a Tweet saying “Calzaghe would have fought GGG.” Froch never replied to this comment from Rafael, and it’s starting to look like Froch never will.
