By Jason Kim: Former WBA World lightweight champion Brandon Rios (28-0-1, 22 KO’s) will be working with Victor Conte, the counter of BALCO, on a diet to help keep his weight down. Rios failed to make weight for his fight last weekend against John Murray and not only lost his World Boxing Association title but also was fined $20,000 of his purse for that fight.
Brandon Rios
Brandon Rios wants Juan Manuel Marquez and Maidana, but he’ll end up facing Mike Alvarado
By Allen Fox: Brandon Rios (29-0-1, 22 KO’s) did what he had to do to take out John Murray (31-2, 18 KO’s) in the 11th round last Saturday night at the Madison Square Garden. Rios didn’t look as impressive as he had in previous bouts, but part of the reason for that was he fighting a guy that was an excellent inside fighter in Murray.
Where to now for John Murray?
By Scott Gilfoid: After last Saturday’s night second consecutive knockout loss things are looking kind of dark for John Murray (31-2, 18 KO’s), who was blasted out by Brandon Rios in an 11th round TKO on the Miguel Cotto vs. Antonio Margarito card.
Kevin Mitchell: I’d have no problems with Brandon Rios
By Scott Gilfoid: I knew they’d start coming out of the woodwork after last Saturday’s fight, but didn’t think it would start so fast. Check this out. Lightweight contender Kevin Mitchell (32-1, 24 KO’s) wasn’t impressed with what he saw from former WBA lightweight champion Brandon Rios (29-0-1, 22 KO’s) last Saturday night in his 11th round TKO win over John Murray (31-2, 18 KO’s).
Arum moving Brandon Rios up to 140 against Mike Alvarado; no Gamboa
By Allen Fox: After former WBA lightweight champion Brandon Rios (29-0-1, 22 KOs) failed to make weight last Friday and was stripped of his World Boxing Association title, he had to struggle last night to defeat British fringe contender John Murray 31-1, 18 KO’s) by an 11th round TKO at Madison Square Garden, New York.
Brandon Rios stops John Murray in 11th round!
By Jim Dower: Former WBA lightweight champion Brandon Rios (29-0-1, 22 KO’s) looked weaker than he usually does in stopping John Murray (31-2, 18 KO’s) in the 11th round on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden. Rios hurt Murray in the 11th with some hard power shots and then followed with a nice right uppercut followed quickly by a left hook to the head that prompted for referee Earl Brown to step in and halt the fight at 2:06 of the round.
John Murray will be slaughtered by Brandon Rios tonight – Prediction
By Scott Gilfoid: Well, I suppose John Murray (31-1, 18 KO’s) has received the bad news by now that Brandon Rios (28-0-1, 21 KO’s) successfully came in under the 147 pound weigh-in limit at their agreed upon fight date weigh-in. The fight is now a reality and there is nothing to save Murray for what is most definitely going to be a beating at the hands of Rios. I predict a short, brutal slaughter in which Murray is raked with shots to the head and body tonight, ending with a bloody and battered Murray hitting the deck.
Brandon Rios weighs in at 146.4 today, fight with John Murray will go ahead tonight as planned
By Jason Kim: Former WBA World Lightweight champion Brandon Rios made the agreed upon weigh-in on Saturday morning today, weighing in at 146.4 for tonight’s fight against the UK’s John Murray at Madison Square Garden. Rios wasn’t permitted to go more than 147 lbs for today’s weigh-in and he made that weight by a slight margin. However, Rios lost his World Boxing Association title on Friday after failing to make the 135 pound weight on two successive weigh-in attempts.
