Boxing’s Undercards make strong Pay Per Views

By Robert Elmore: An undercard is just as important as the main event in boxing. Now usually fans will not begin to fill the arena until its gets close to the main event. If a promoter has a history of putting together bad undercards, then it makes your audience less likely to tune in.

Boxing promoters: The directors of the sportsworld

By Dean Gsell: It’s bad enough that there are as many title belts as fighters out there. So who’s the champ? If they had four Super Bowls per NFL season, then pro football would have died a long time ago. Boxing hangs on because the fans sift through Saturday nights waiting to see a flash in the pan.

Grzegorz Proksa vs. Lee Noble this Saturday night in Belfast

proksa333By Allan Fox: Former EBU middleweight champion Grzegorz Proksa (28-2, 21 KO’s) will return to the ring this Saturday night in a scheduled 6-round fight against journeyman Lee Noble (15-24-3, 3 KO’s) on the undercard of the Carl Frampton vs. Kiko Martinez card at the Odyssey Arena, Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom.

Proksa, 28, is trying to get a tune-up victory under his belt before he faces middleweight contender #6 IBF Osumanu Adama (20-3, 15 KO’s) on March 29th at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino, in Verona, New York, USA. Proksa has already fought Noble in the past, knocking him out in the 3rd round in 2009.

Waltons 10 count: An interview with Frank Buglioni

By Ben Walton: This week, answering ten quick fire questions for me will be Britain’s hottest young prospect Frank Buglioni.

Unbeaten in 7 fights at Super middleweight with 5 KO’s to his name, he is next out on March 16th at Wembley arena on the Cleverly v Krasniqi undercard.

Firstly Frank, let me congratulate you on the great start to your career so far, and also thank you for giving me your time today. Lets get started!

Bursak destroys Sainte, wins vacant EBU 160 lb. title

bursak4By Jim Dower: #7 WBO, Max Bursak (26-1-1, 12 KO’s) totally dominated a badly over-matched Julien Marie Sainte (34-3, 24 KO’s) in stopping him in the 3rd round on Saturday night to capture the vacant EBU middleweight title at the Salle Pierre Scohy, Aulnay-sous-Bois, Seine-Saint-Denis, France.

The 28-year-old Bursak caught Sainte on the ropes in the 3rd and unloaded on him with a barrage of punches ending with a big left that put Sainte down on the canvas. The referee Massimo Barrovecchio had seen enough of this one-sided fight and he chose to stop the fight right there rather letting a bleeding Sainte continue to take one-sided punishment from the stronger, faster and much more aggressive Bursak.

Gomez decisions Lane; Bey and Diaz Jr. victorious

gomez1By Jim Dower: Undefeated welterweight prospect Frankie Gomez (15-0, 11 KO’s) stayed unbeaten with a dominating 10 round unanimous decision on Saturday night over Lanard Lane (13-3, 8 KO’s) at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, Nevada.

The final judges’ scores were 98-92, 100-90 and 100-90. Gomez was able to hit Lane at will with shots, but wasn’t able to blow him out the way that Gomez has been destroying most of his over-matched opposition. He looked good, and he needs to keep facing better opposition in the future.

Dirrell no longer trained by Mayweather Sr

dirrell34233By Scott Gilfoid: Super middleweight Andre Dirrell (20-1, 14 KO’s), who should be unbeaten still given his controversial loss to Carl Froch, is no longer training with Floyd Mayweather Sr. It seems they’ve decided to go in different directions for some unknown reason.

According to Hustleboss.com, Mayweather Sr. was late for some Dirrell’s workouts, but that still might not be the reason for the two going their separate way. Mayweather Sr. was reportedly not sure why Dirrell’s fights weren’t happening.

There were a couple of fight cards in particular that Dirrell was rumored to be fighting on, but it failed to happen.

Jessie Vargas vs. Wale Omotoso on Bradley-Provodnikov card on March 16th

vargas43By Dan Ambrose: A bout pitting unbeaten welterweights Wale Omotoso (23-0, 19 KO’s) vs. Jessie Vargas (23-0, 9 KO’s) will be on the undercard of WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley’s first title defense against Ruslan Provodnikov on March 16th, according to Steve Kim. The fight card will be staged at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California, and HBO will likely be televising it.

Omotoso, #12 IBF, hasn’t faced any real quality opposition yet, so this will be a step up for him in a big way. Omotoso’s best opponents on his resume are Lanardo Tyner and Irving Garcia. Omotoso beat Tyner by an 8 round decision, and his fight with Garcia was stopped in the 2nd round due to a cut that Garcia suffered on his forehead from a clash of heads in the round. Omotoso does have decent power, but not enough to stop the better opposition.

2013- The Brits are coming…

froch0244By Paul Walsh: 2013 is set to be a huge year for British boxing.  For some it is about redemption, for others it is about new beginnings and the rest it is about stepping up to the world stage.

The road to redemption is a path which Carl Froch will follow this year in what is set to be the year of the rematch for the “Cobra”, he will start with the defence of his IBF crown against the Great Dane Mikkel Kessler.  If it is half as good as the first fight we are in for another special night for British boxing.

No venue has been set as of yet but Kessler has agreed to take the fight in England and I think that will be the deciding factor.  Carl Froch is in the form of his life and I think he will have too much for Kessler with the backing of the raucous home crowd especially if he can get the fight in Nottingham.
