The Battle of York 4 set for August 1st – News

schwatzen3By Erik Schmidt: Russian heavyweight Denis Bakhtov (30-5, 19 KO’s) scored a shocking 1st round knockout over big 6’5” Steffen Kretschmann (13-1, 12 KO’s) on Fruday night at the Hermann-Neuberger-Halle, in Saarland, Germany. Kretschmann, 29, was dropped by a big hand from Bakhtov late in the 1st round. After getting up, Kretschmann staggered briefly causing referee Ernst Salzgeber to stop the action at 2:34 of the 1st round.

cotto7559By Dave Lahr: With only one day remaining until their World Boxing Organization title bout at New York’s Madison Square Garden, title holder Miguel Cotto (33-1, 27 KO’s) weighed in at one pound under the welterweight limit at 146, while his 32-year-old challenger Joshua Clottey (35-2, 20 KO’s) came in right at the limit at 147. Clottey is hoping to try and rip the WBO title from Cotto’s possession and has picked a perfect time to fight Cotto, who was defeated by Antonio Margarito 11 months ago in a fight that could potentially have lasting effects.

cintron334By Manuel Perez: Kermit Cintron (31-2-1, 27 KO’s) pulled off a tremendous upset against previously unbeaten number #1 ranked light middleweight Alfredo Angulo in a 12-round unanimous decision on Saturday night at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, in Hollywood, Florida. Despite winning the fight and landing the weaker punches for 12 rounds, Cintron only landed fifty more punches than Angulo.

Lauri Defeats Tolppola on 10th round Disqualification; Shafikov Crushes Cotterill – Boxing Results

By Erik Schmidt: EBU-EU light welterweight champion Giuseppe Lauri (48-6, 28 KO’s) defeated Finland’s Juho Tolppola (22-6, 9 KO’s) by a 10th round disqualification on Saturday night at the Hartwall Arena, in Helsinki, Finland. The fight was hilarious to watch due the constant fouling by Tolppola, who was penalized on two separate occasions for head butts and then landing a rabbit punch on the break.
