Mosley vs Berto Cancelled
LOS ANGELES/NEW YORK (January 18, 2010) – WBC Welterweight World Champion Andre Berto stated in a personal press release earlier today that due to the catastrophic earthquake that struck Haiti and deeply affected his family who resides there, he is physically and emotionally unable to prepare for his Saturday, Jan. 30 bout with WBA Welterweight World Champion Sugar Shane Mosley and, as a result, will withdraw from the bout.
Given the close proximity to the date of the event and the difficulty in finding a suitable replacement for Berto, the event will be cancelled entirely.
The creation of a Super Heavyweight division is being considered
By Sam Gregory: Boxing once again will be diminished even further when what used to be the cornerstone of boxing, the heavyweight division, will be hacked apart to add the new “Super heavyweight” division.
In recent years the heavyweight division in boxing has been reduced to a fragment of what it used to be in times as recent as the Ali, Foreman and Frazier era. Many of long time boxing fans biggest fear is going to happen, the creation of the “Super Heavyweight” division; yes money speaks and these days it seems like money is all that matters when the most cherished title in boxing, the heavyweight crown, will be diminished even further.
Burgos stops Martinez in 12
By Sam Gregory: In tonight’s main event on ESPN2’s Friday Night Fight’s from Laredo, Texas undefeated Juan Carlos Burgos of Tijuana, Mexico fought to defend his WBC Caribbean Boxing Federation featherweight title against Juan Carlos Martinez of San Luis Potosi, Mexico in a scheduled 12 round bout in the featherweight division.
In round 1 Burgos threw some very solid combinations landing a left uppercut; Martinez countered off Burgos combinations. Burgos landed the majority of punches and won this round.
Katsidis wants to fight Mundine – News
By Jim Dower: For what it’s worth, World Boxing Organization interim lightweight champion Michael Katsidis (26-2, 21 KO’s) wants a shot against former WBA super middleweight champion Anthony Mundine (38-3, 23 KO’s). This must be an Australian thing, because although the 29-year-old Katsidis is a tough fighter and powerful for a lightweight, he would seem to be way too small to beat a fighter the size of Mundine.

Floyd gets the blame for Mayweather-Pacquiao stalemate in LA Times Poll
By Eric Thomas: In a poll at the Los Angeles Times, Floyd Mayweather Jr. takes a huge amount of the blame for negotiations stalemate with Manny Pacquiao with the boxing fans that have taken part in the poll.
Of the 12, 819 votes that have been submitted in the poll, 9,615, roughly 75% of the voters, think that Mayweather is to blame for the impasse. Whereas with Pacquiao, only 794 (6%) of the voters think he’s the reason for the negotiation troubles.
Is Mayweather just too good for Pacquiao?
