Burgos stops Martinez in 12

By Sam Gregory: In tonight’s main event on ESPN2’s Friday Night Fight’s from Laredo, Texas undefeated Juan Carlos Burgos of Tijuana, Mexico fought to defend his WBC Caribbean Boxing Federation featherweight title against Juan Carlos Martinez of San Luis Potosi, Mexico in a scheduled 12 round bout in the featherweight division.

In round 1 Burgos threw some very solid combinations landing a left uppercut; Martinez countered off Burgos combinations. Burgos landed the majority of punches and won this round.

Round 2 Burgos landed a solid four punch combination to win this round

Round 3 Martinez came out the aggressor in this round, Burgos landed a lead left hook that landed solid and rocked Martinez

At the end of 3 rounds Burgos was winning on the unofficial scorecard

Round 4 Martinez was a very game fighter and again came out the aggressor in this round throwing his lead jab but not landing enough to carry the round

Round 5 Martinez was able to counter off Burgos’ jab to land a solid combination; Burgos goes to the body and lands a solid right hook

Round 6 Burgos lands his solid jab throughout this round, Martinez tries to counter but Burgos is able to move his body out of range

Round 7 Burgos lands a solid left to the body; Burgos doubles up on his body shots, Martinez ties up and Burgos punches out

Round 8 Burgos goes right to the body, Martinez tries to counter but Burgos spins out and lands a solid combination to the body; Martinez finishes the round with a flurry of punches but most are blocked

Round 9 Martinez is game and determined throwing combinations to the body and head; Burgos steps up the pace throwing left hooks that keep Martinez off balance

Round 10 Burgos is taking his time throwing his jab with accuracy; Burgos lands a solid right, Martinez ties up, Burgos punches out, Burgos lands a solid right hand looks like he’s trying to push Martinez

Round 11Burgos lands solid right hand that staggers Martinez; Burgos dictating the offensive flow of this fight; Martinez has a very good chin

Round 12 Martinez comes out the aggressor knowing he needs a knockout but Burgos takes control and lands a combination the stops Martinez 1:07 of the 12th round. Juan Carlos Burgos wins this fight by TKO.

Burgos improves his unbeaten record to 24-0 with 17 KO’s; Martinez falls to 17-12 with 7 KO’s, this was the third time Martinez was stopped in his career
