Fury-Cunningham: The most entertaining heavyweight fight in years

fury3333By Lee Smith: British Heavyweight Contender Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s) defeated American Steve Cunningham 25-6 by 7th round KO last Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York, to further stake a claim for a World Title Shot.

Despite a lot of people criticizing Fury for his sloppy performance in the opening rounds I think he deserves a lot more credit that he is getting. In fact both fighter deserve credit for putting on a fight which was probably the most entertaining heavyweight fight in years. With two contenders going toe-to-toe from the off and neither wanting to win a boring fight on points.

The fight swung one way then the other. It had knockdowns, point deductions, two fighters who wanted to win and most of all the one thing boxing fans want from a heavyweight fighter…A knock out victory.

Canelo should not expect Floyd to fight him!

IMG_2337(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Juan dela Cruz: After a dominating performance against Austin “No Doubt” Trout at Alamodome, San Antonio, Texas last April 21, 2013, which proved once and for all that he is ready to face the elite in his division, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is now eyeing Floyd Mayweather Jr for his next outing.

Unfortunately for Canelo, Floyd Jr is not keen on facing him mainly because Canelo is now a big threat to Floyd. This was already expected by boxing analysts and sports fans around the world as we know Floyd won’t face any threat to his “0” record and Canelo is one of them. After dealing Trout his first loss in his career, Canelo proved that he is no joke and that he is at the elite level. Floyd cannot put his contract in Showtime in jeopardy if he will face Alvarez at this time knowing it will be a sure loss for him.

De La Hoya: Canelo has Cotto and Mayweather as options for his next fight in September

IMG_2483(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Allan Fox: Oscar De La Hoya, the promoter for WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s), says that Miguel Cotto and Floyd Mayweather Jr. are the two leading candidates for Canelo’s next fight in September.

De Hoya and Golden Boy are waiting for the outcome of Mayweather’s fight next month against Robert Guerrero before they make a move to set up an opponent for Canelo in September.

De La Hoya said to elnuevodia.com “They are both options [Cotto and Mayweather], but Canelo Alvarez has said he wants to fight the best and the best currently is Floyd Mayweather. Then we have to see what will happen on May 4 because it is not guaranteed to win. Guerrero is complicated. If there is a day where you can lose your undefeated record, Floyd will be on May 4.”

Froch says he’s ready to fight Kessler

Froch#9By Scott Gilfoid: With little more than a month to go for his big unification fight against his old nemesis WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KO’s) on May 25th, IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) says he feels ready to face Kessler and that he’s in good condition for their fight.

I hope that’s the case because I’d hate to hear excuses from Froch afterwards if things don’t right for him like the last time he faced Kessler in 2010.

Froch said to thesun.co.uk “I am getting that tingle in my hands and down my spine now, I know that feeling well and it means that I’m ready to fight…I feel like everything is clicking in training and sparring has been fantastic. I couldn’t ask to be in a better place than I am right now.”

How does Canelo expect Mayweather to fight him after pulling out of his May 4th fight card?

IMG_1793By Chris Williams: In a sign of total arrogance, WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) wants Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) to fight him later on this year on the Mexican holiday on September 14th. Canelo wants that fight badly because it would bring him huge money, and big time fame overnight.

It would be a fight that could turn Canelo into a pay-per-view star just as the Oscar De La Hoya vs. Mayweather fight turned Mayweather into a PPV star from that point forward. Unfortunately for Canelo, he made a major miscalculation recently by pulling out of Mayweather’s May 4th fight card after his attempts at pressuring him for a September 14th fight failed to work.

Zab Judah vs. Danny Garcia this Saturday, April 27th in Brooklyn, New York

zab judahBy Allan Fox: 35-year-old former two division world champion Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) has a dangerous fight this Saturday night against WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York, USA.

Judah and Garcia were supposed to have fought last February but Garcia suffered a rib and thumb injury that made it necessary for him to postpone the fight. There are rumors that Garcia was too heavy and wouldn’t have been able to make the 140 lb. weight limit even by dehydrating.

Garcia is one of those light welterweights that are really heavy for the division and it gives him a good advantage over his lighter opponents. Judah could have problems in this fight if Garcia rehydrates up to 160+ because he’s more of a true light welterweight compared to Garcia, who is more of a junior middleweight in size.

Fury: I’ll KO Wladimir like I did Cunningham

fury111By Scott Gilfoid: Fresh off his poor performance against Steven Cunningham last Saturday night in a fight where Fury knocked Cunningham out while holding him in place with his left arm, Fury is now saying he’s ready to step up several levels and knockout IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko when he gets the chance at some point in the future.

Fury said to thesun.co.uk “When Wladimir fights me I will know him out just like I KO’d Steve Cunningham. If I have to go through [Kubrat] Pulev first then fine. I will knock him out too.”

Fury will have to go through Pulev if he wants to fight Wladimir because he’s not going to pick him out and give him a title shot based on Fury’s poor performance against Cunningham.

Khan vs. Diaz this Saturday, April 27th, in Sheffield, UK

khan1By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan (27-3, 19 KO’s) will be fighting this Saturday night against Julio Diaz (40-7-1, 29 KO’s) in what should be Khan’s last tune-up fight before he’s thrown back in with the sharks of the light welterweight division.

If Khan gets past the 33-year-old Diaz then he will have had two easy fights to build up his confidence to get him ready to start fighting the quality fighters in the 140 lb. division. If Khan can’t cut the mustard again then Golden Boy Promotions is going to have to seriously consider cutting him loose unless they’re okay with him being a gate keeper/Euro level fighter.
