Klitschko destroys Pianeta

wlad43By Jim Dower: In a dreadful mismatch, IBO/IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (60-3, 51 KO’s) made easy work of a badly over-matched Francesco Pianeta (28-1-1, 15 KO’s) in the 6th round tonight at the SAP Arena in Mannheim, Germany.

Wladimir put Pianeta down three times in the fight, once in the 4th, 5th and a final time in the 6th. Wladimir finished Pianeta off with a left, right, left combination that sent Pianeta down on the canvas badly hurt.

To his credit, Pianeta staggered to his feet but the fight was stopped after the referee saw how hurt Pianeta was.

Koncz: Pacquiao is willing to fight Mayweather, and we’ll do the blood tests

pac92By Chris Williams: Michael Koncz, the adviser for Manny Pacquiao, is saying that they’re willing to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. and they’ll agree to the blood tests for performance enhancing drugs as long as Mayweather agrees to the same testing.

Koncz told I Film London: “We’re open to that fight, we’ve always wanted that fight. Now it’s in Floyd’s court because Manny himself said on our last press tour when we fought [WBO welterweight champion Timothy] Bradley, that he’s willing to accept less. We’re willing to do the blood tests whenever and any kind of testing as long as Floyd does the same and we’re willing to give him 60% and we’ll take 40%.”

Guerrero looking a little flabby around midsection for Mayweather fight

01(Photo credit: Naoki Fakuda) By Dan Ambrose: You’ve got to give Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero a great deal of credit for being able to move up two divisions to face Floyd Mayweather Jr. It was only four years ago that Guerrero was fighting at featherweight, and was one of the tallest biggest featherweights in the division.

Guerrero has basically eaten his way to the welterweight division, but doesn’t have the muscles or the power at this weight that he had at featherweight and super featherweight. Indeed, like a lot of fighters that put on a lot of weight in a short period of time, Guerrero is carrying around some flab.

Khan: Mayweather has too much talent for Guerrero, but I have the game plan for beating Floyd

floyd453By Scott Gilfoid: Former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan’s career may be on the brink of implosion after losses to Danny Garcia and Lamont Peterson and a close, close call against 2nd tier fighter Julio Diaz, but that’s not stopping Khan from flapping his gums about tonight’s fight between Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Khan is going with the safe pick in choosing Mayweather to come out on top against Guerrero. It’s unclear if Khan is doing this because he really believes Mayweather is the more talented fighter of because Guerrero trash talked him in the past, but he seems to think Mayweather will win this one.

Trout: Mayweather will beat Guerrero

mayweather555By Dan Ambrose: Former WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout is going with WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. to defeat Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) this Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Trout has seen a lot of both fighters, and he sees Guerrero trying to rough Mayweather up but he doesn’t see that working for him. Trout does see the fight being a close one, but he feels that Guerrero won’t do enough to get the decision.

What if?

By Onaps: The Heavyweight title fight tomorrow makes me ponder, only imagine how wonderful a Word would be if our barren landscape of American heavyweight contenders went from Arreola, Jennings, Wilder, who, mind you, are all good fighters with boxing ability.

Purses: Mayweather $32 million, Guerrero $3 million

guerrero422By Chris Williams: In looking at the paychecks the fighters will be getting this Saturday night there’s no mistaking who the star is for this fight. Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) will be getting a guaranteed $32 million, and Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) will be receiving $3 million for their fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The $3 million may not seem like a lot of money, but it’s by far the most money that Guerrero has ever received in a fight, and I’m sure he’s happy to get even that.

Without Mayweather, Guerrero would likely be fighting for less $1 million.
