The Heavyweight Division: Is it really booming?

Image: The Heavyweight Division: Is it really booming?

By Rameez Haider: After my previous article on Anthony Joshua, I have had several tweets debating whether David Haye would beat him? Is Wladimir Klitschko a step up for Joshua? Do these fights matter when the number one heavyweight Tyson Fury is inactive? How will Joshua hold up against Deontay Wilder?

The questions got me thinking about the heavyweight division and where we currently sit. I think it is fair to say that everyone will agree on the current top heavyweights in the division:

Eddie Hearn: Like him or Loathe him?

Image: Eddie Hearn: Like him or Loathe him?

By Rameez Haider: After my most recent article surrounding Anthony Joshua, I have had a fair few tweets surrounding comments I made about Eddie Hearn and the job he is doing with British boxing.

A lot of people have jumped onto the band wagon after David Haye’s verbal assault on Eddie Hearn and his style of promotion. I want to apologize in advance to any readers from the other side of the pond who may not find this article very relevant but it is something I wanted to address.

Joshua thinks beating Klitschko will make him a legend

Image: Joshua thinks beating Klitschko will make him a legend

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (18-0, 18 KOs) is under the impression that a win over Wladimir Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs) will make him “a legend” immediately in the sport of boxing when they fight each other on April 29 on Sky Box Office PPV at Wembley Stadium in London, England.

Wladimir is about to turn 41, and the last guy that beat him, Tyson Fury, isn’t perceived as a legend. Joshua might not realize that Wladimir is not looking lately, and you can argue that he likely would be beaten by at least 10 if the current top heavyweights.

Chisora vs. Whyte II possible for Joshua-Klitschko card

Image: Chisora vs. Whyte II possible for Joshua-Klitschko card

By Scott Gilfoid: We might be seeing a rematch between British heavyweights Dillian Whyte (20-1, 15 KOs) and Dereck Chisora (26-7, 18 KOs) on the April 29th undercard of the Anthony Joshua vs. Wladimir Klitschko card on Sky Box Office PPV at Wembley Stadium in London, England. Chisora is open to a rematch against Whyte if the money is right.

Chisora, 32, wants a rematch against Whyte period to avenge his controversial 12 round split decision loss last Saturday night on the undercard of the Joshua vs. Eric Molina card at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England.

Joshua-Klitschko: Will Wladimir let his hands go?

Image: Joshua-Klitschko: Will Wladimir let his hands go?

By Scott Gilfoid: Wladimir Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs) will be 41-year-old by the time he steps foot inside the ring against IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (18-0, 18 KOs) to compete with him for his IBF and for the vacant WBA titles on April 29 at the Wembley Stadium in London, England.

The fight is seen as a big one for some in the boxing world. For others, the Joshua vs. Klitschko fight is seen as HORRIBLE mismatch between a young 27-year-old lion in Joshua and an aging lion in Wladimir, who no longer seems capable of letting his hands go in any real way other than to throw simple jabs.

Anthony Joshua: The Real Deal or Not?

Image: Anthony Joshua: The Real Deal or Not?

By Rameez Haider: Before I get into my article, I want to make it clear that boxing is a subjective sport, based solely on people’s interpretations and opinions. A lot of articles are simply written to cause controversy and to make people comment on how inaccurate the article is. My articles are simply my opinion and a platform for others to share their opinions whether they agree or disagree with me. I am not out to offend anyone or any boxer as I have the upmost respect for anyone with the courage to step foot into the squared circle.

Joshua vs. Klitschko: Does this fight sell?

Image: Joshua vs. Klitschko: Does this fight sell?

By Scott Gilfoid: It was announced last Saturday night that IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua will be defending his belt in a fight against 41-year-old Wladimir Klitschko on April 29 at the huge Wembley Stadium in London, England. The fight will be televised on Sky Box Office PPV in the UK.

My question is does a match against a clearly past his best and VERY, VERY ring rusty Klitschko sell to the British boxing public? The fight isn’t going to be on pay-per-view in the UK. As far as I know, it won’t be PPV in the U.S. How does a fight involving an aging guy that lost his last fight in Wladimir end up on PPV against Joshua?

Joshua vs. Klitschko officially announced for April 29

Image: Joshua vs. Klitschko officially announced for April 29

By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn officially announced the Anthony Joshua vs. Wladimir Klitschko fight for April 29 last Saturday night following Joshua’s 3rd round knockout win over #8 IBF challenger Eric Molina (25-4, 19 KOs) at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England. Hearn and Klitschko both came inside the ring to discuss the April 29th Joshua-Klitschko fight, which will be taking place at the 90,000 seat Wembley Arena in London, UK. The fight will be shown on Sky Box Office PPV in the UK. It’s unclear whether HBO Championship Boxing will televise the fight in the States.

It wouldn’t be surprising if the fight winds up on HBO PPV in the U.S. I would hope that they don’t make that move, because then it would be seen by very, very few boxing fans. Joshua isn’t well known in the U.S, and Wladimir never did become a star over there for some reason. Putting Joshua vs. Klitschko on PPV might be a recipe for disaster, especially given that Hearn is trying to make Joshua a star in the U.S.
