Wladimir Klitschko says he’s not in decline

Image: Wladimir Klitschko says he’s not in decline

By Scott Gilfoid: Despite two poor efforts in his last two fights against Tyson Fury and Bryant Jennings, 40-year-old former heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs) insists he’s not in decline as he heads towards the biggest fight of his pro career against IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (18-0, 18 KOs) on April 29.

In the view of a lot of boxing fans, Wladimir is already over-the-hill and ready to be sent into retirement by the younger 27-year-old Joshua when the two fight at Wembley Stadium in London, England. It’s not just Wladimir being in his 40s that makes the fans see him as a guy that no longer has what it takes to beat the better fighters in the division. It’s how Wladimir has looked in his last two fights against the light hitting Fury and Jennings.

Joshua not counting on Wladimir brawling with him

Image: Joshua not counting on Wladimir brawling with him

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua likes to go to war in his fights to turn them into brawls, but he’s probably not going to get that kind of an encounter with Wladimir Klitschko on April 29 at Wembley Stadium in London, England. Frankly, I think Joshua vs. Wladimir could be one of the most boring fights of the year if Wladimir gets his way. He sure as heck isn’t going to trade shots.

We already saw in Wladimir’s last fight against Tyson Fury that he has NO INTEREST in taking risks by throwing his right hand. The only thing Wladimir did against Fury was follow him around with his hand cocked for 12 rounds without throwing anything. What a dreadful fight that was.

Wilder: Klitschko can’t be counted out in Joshua fight

Image: Wilder: Klitschko can’t be counted out in Joshua fight

By Scott Gilfoid: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder is still giving Wladimir Klitschko a shot at beating IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in their fight on April 29 despite his feelings that father time is beating on the door of the aging 40-year-old Ukrainian heavyweight.

Deontay openly admits that he wants the younger lion Joshua to win the fight thought, considering that a fight between the two will make a heck of a lot of green stuff. Wilder likes the idea him matching a fighter like Joshua, who will come to slug with him, because he wants to trade shots with him and land some right hands on his chin to see if he remains standing.

Vitali Klitschko: Joshua doesn’t have a chance if Wladimir is focused 100%

Image: Vitali Klitschko: Joshua doesn’t have a chance if Wladimir is focused 100%

By Eric Baldwin: Former heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko believes his brother Wladimir Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs) will absolutely beat IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (18-0, 18 KOs) in their fight on April 29, as long as the 40-year-old Wladimir is 100 percent dialed in for their fight at Wembley Stadium in London, England.

Vitali doesn’t see Wladimir’s age as issue. He feels that Wladimir is still young and has five more years at the top of boxing as long as he’s focused. Before retiring two years ago, Vitali was still fighting a high level in the sport, and he looked unbeatable.

Gennady Golovkin may be the best boxer in the world right now, but he fails to get the attention he deserves from boxing fans. Golovkin will put his perfect 36-0 record and three middleweight titles on the line when he face Daniel Jacobs on March 18. Jacobs is coming off an impressive 7th round TKO of Sergio Mora in his last fight. While he immediately called out Gennady Golovkin after the win against Mora, Danny Jacobs may regret his actions in March.

Klitschko likes being challenger for Joshua

Image: Klitschko likes being challenger for Joshua

By Eric Baldwin: On April 29, Wladimir Klitschko will be a challenger for the first time since his 7th round knockout victory over Chris Byrd in 2006. Byrd was the IBF heavyweight champion at the time, and the 6’6” Wladimir imposed his huge 5 ½” inch height and 28 pound weight advantage over the American to dominate and eventually stop him.

After Wladimir lost his IBF title to Tyson Fury last year, he now finds himself the challenger against the current IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (18-0, 18 KOs) at Wembley Stadium in London, England. Klitschko finds it an exhilarating experience for him to be challenger once again rather than the champion.

Joshua will likely face Pulev after Klitschko

Image: Joshua will likely face Pulev after Klitschko

By Jeff Aranow: If everything goes right for IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (18-0, 18 KOs) in his fight against Wladimir Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs) on April 29, he could be facing his IBF mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev (24-1, 13 KOs) in the summer time in the UK. Pulev recently beat Samuel Peter and Dereck Chisora to put himself in the lead position for a title shot against Joshua.

Eddie Hearn, the promoter for Joshua, thinks it’s possible for the 27-year-old Joshua to fight Wladimir, Pulev and WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder all in 2017. That would be a big year for Joshua if he can take all of those fights. For all intents and purposes, Joshua would clear out the heavyweight division if he can beat those three heavyweights next year.

AJ’s 19th fight v the rest

Image: AJ's 19th fight v the rest

By Dean Bain: Anthony Joshua has taken a lot of stick since winning the IBF belt in his 16th fight, firstly this is due to the level of the fighter he beat to win the belt and then the level of fighters he has fought to defend it. Let’s be honest he is only champion due to smart match making by Matchroom.

AJ is a money machine and the most marketable heavyweight boxer in the world, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom had AJ travel the UK to build him up. The question is has Matchroom hindered the credit Joshua gets due to his match making so far? I would say in UK no but it has to the American boxing fans. The problem is that he won the belt too early, he was never ready for the top guys in the division when he won the belt, the belt fell in to his lap after fighting Charles Martin who was nowhere near good enough to be Champion.

Joshua says it’s “perfect time” to fight Klitschko

Image: Joshua says it’s “perfect time” to fight Klitschko

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua appears to be in agreement with David Haye about this being the “perfect time” to fight the 41-year-old Wladimir Klitschko in their fight on April 29. Haye recently said that it was the “perfect time” for Joshua to be getting the fight against the fading Klitschko, as he hasn’t fought in quite a while, and with him looking less than good in his loss to Tyson Fury over a year ago.

Poor Joshua, won’t get credit if he beats Wladimir except with the casual boxing fans, many of who have no idea that the Ukrainian is older, and no longer the fighter he was 15 years ago. The casual fans will give Joshua credit for beating Klitschko, because they won’t know much about how the former heavyweight champion’s boxing skills have deteriorated recently in the last two years.
