News – Kotelnik-Khan: Andriy Leery About His Chances of Winning a Decision

By Dave Lahr: In looking at the three fights that WBA light middleweight champion Andriy Kotelnik 31-2-1, 13 KOs) has had in the UK, it’s safe to say that he’s had fairly rotten luck in winning a decision over there. Indeed, of the three times that Kotelnik has fought over there, he’s lost by a close 12-round decision to Junior Witter four years ago in July 2005, fought to a 12-round draw with Souleymane M’baye in March 2007, and then won by a 12th round knockout over Gavin Rees last year in March 2008.

Can Khan Put Hatton Out of His Misery?

By Matt Stein: If Ricky Hatton plans on fighting only one more time before he retires, I’m really hoping he selects Amir Khan as his next opponent. All the other fighters that I can see Hatton being matched up at this point is rather dull and dreary, because Ricky is probably going to be put in with some washed up fighter or someone that is more of a trial horse than a true championship caliber fighter.

With Kotelnik On The Horizon Amir Khan Stands At A Stylistic Crossroads

khan44555By Steven Pink: On the verge of challenging for his first world title in June Amir Khan finds himself standing at something of a stylistic crossroads. The carefree seventeen year old who captured the hearts of a nation at the 2004 Athens Olympics and the streaking prospect who raced to eighteen straight professional wins was a come forward fighter, willing to enter punching range in order to punish his opponent.

How Far Can Khan Go Once He Stops Fighting Fluff Opponents?

By Chris Williams: After 21 pro fights it’s surprising how little quality competition that lightweight Amir Khan (20-1, 15 KOs) has faced up to this point in his career. Of all the opponents that have been fed to him, I only rate Breidis Prescott as being the one true threat and he ended up knocking Khan out in the 1st round last year in September.

Khan Could Soon Shove Aside Hatton as Britain’s Number #1 Boxer

By Jason Kim: Lightweight contender Amir Khan (20-1, 15 KOs) could find himself soon as Britain’s number #1 fighter if he can defeat World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Andriy Kotelnik on June 27th, and then pick up a couple of wins over some big named opponents like Edwin Valero or even possibly Ricky Hatton. Even if Hatton isn’t interested in fighting Khan because of their friendship, I think Khan is ready to push Hatton out of the way and take over as the number #1 fighter in the UK.

Why Hatton Must Fight Amir Khan

By Jason Kim: Ricky Hatton’s career is in shambles at this point with his 2nd round knockout loss to Manny Pacquiao. I don’t suspect that Hatton is going to retire, because he won’t want to go out of boxing with the kind of defeat that he suffered against Pacquiao. And I don’t think that Hatton is going to be satisfied by a fight against Michael Katsidis or some other beatable opponent that is trotted out for Hatton to get his confidence back.

Khan: “I Just Love Proving People Wrong”

By Chris Williams: British lightweight contender Amir Khan (20-1, 15 KOs) sounded a little deluded and like he has a mini chip on his shoulder in a recent interview in which Khan said, “I love proving people wrong. Lots of boxers and so-called experts said I’d never come back the same, but I’ve come back better.” Khan, 22, is referring to his 1st round knockout loss to Colombian Breidis Prescott in September 2008, a fight which Khan foolishly rushed out and tried to trade shots with the bigger and more powerful Prescott.

Can Roach Turn Khan Into Another Pacquiao?

khan45646449By Dave Lahr: Trainer Freddie Roach takes pride in his training of excellent fighters and helping the careers of more establish boxers that he takes on from time to time. Roach obviously doesn’t always pick winners, but it seems like lately he’s been doing well with Manny Pacquiao, at least for the time being that is. One fighter that Roach has begun training in the past year is British lightweight Amir Khan, who Roach feels can be one of the pound-for-pound best boxers in two years.
