Joe Cortez to referee Khan vs. Maidana fight: This might work well for Amir

Image: Joe Cortez to referee Khan vs. Maidana fight: This might work well for AmirBy Eric Thomas: According to the latest boxing news, referee Joe Cortez will be working this Saturday’s championshio fight between WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) and Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s) at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. For those not familiar with Cortez, he’s the same referee that worked the Ricky Hatton vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. bout in 2007. In that fight, Hatton was unable to work on the inside because Cortez kept separating him and Mayweather, which pretty much forced Hatton to fight on the outside where he got dominated.

Image: Maidana says he's not worried about Khan's boxing abilityBy William Mackay: Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s) says he’s not worried about World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight champion Amir Khan’s boxing skills in their fight this Saturday night. Maidana, who is likely the hardest puncher in the entire light welterweight division, sees his power as stopping the show against Khan, isn’t worried that he’s not as fast or as skilled as the British fighter. Maidana realizes he can change the outcome of the fight with a single right hand.

Khan vs. Maidana: I almost feel sorry for Amir

By Scott Gilfoid: It’s really too bad that Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) is about to face the moment of truth and have all his hopes and dreams washed down the drain with one big shot from Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s) on Saturday night. To listen to Khan speak about his grand vision of beating the Devon Alexander – Timothy Bradley winner and then facing Floyd Mayweather Jr. not long after that, he reminds me of a adult with hopeless dreams. It’s just too bad that Maidana is going to snuff Khan’s dreams by knocking him cold in front of a sold out Mandalay Bay audience in Las Vegas.

Image: Khan says Roach will continue working with him after Pacquiao retires, but will he if Maidana starches him?By William Mackay: World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) says that his trainer Freddie Roach will continue to train him after his number #1 fighter Manny Pacquiao retires in the near future. Roach supposedly was going to retire when Pacquiao retired but says he’ll stick around to continue to train Khan after that. However, you have to wonder whether Roach will stick it out with Khan if he gets knocked out by Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s) this Saturday night at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Khan’s golden road to Mayweather?

Image: Khan's golden road to Mayweather?By Shaun Campbell: World Boxing Association (WBA) light-welterweight champion Amir Khan has expressed his desire to fight former WBC welterweight champion and pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather before he retires. Khan, who is set to clash with Argentina’s Marcos Maidana on Saturday night, has said, “I’m in boxing to fight the very best out there and that means Floyd right now for me. Ricky (Hatton) went to Vegas and met the best to try and prove that he was the best and I will continue where Ricky failed – it’s why we fight. Manny knows that Floyd will never fight him and it could be me that gets in the ring with Floyd – that is a real fight.”

Khan-Maidana: Roach says that Amir will throw only jabs for the first four to five rounds

Image: Khan-Maidana: Roach says that Amir will throw only jabs for the first four to five roundsBy Scott Gilfoid: What happens when you match a fighter with a weak chin against the biggest puncher in the light welterweight division? I think we may find out the answer to that question this Saturday night when the shaky-chinned WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) faces the light welterweight divisions biggest puncher in Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s) in a bout that is scheduled for 12 rounds at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, but it likely won’t last anywhere close to that.

Image: Khan faces Maidana on Saturday, but still talking about his pipe dream fight against MayweatherBy William Mackay: Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) has what could be a make it or break it fight this Saturday night against World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s) in Las Vegas, Nevada, and yet Khan is still talking about a future fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. It’s as if Khan thinks the Maidana fight is practically in the bag. I don’t know what his trainer Freddie Roach has been telling him about his skills during their training camp for the Maidana fight, but Khan needs to realize that Maidana is likely going to end his dreams with one big shot on Saturday night.

Maidana says Khan is overrated and overhyped

Image: Maidana says Khan is overrated and overhypedBy William Mackay: WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s) plans on puncturing World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan’s big dreams next Saturday night in their title fight at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Khan, 23, has been looking past Maidana talking about unifying the light welterweight titles by beating the Timothy Bradley vs. Devon Alexander winner and then taking on Floyd Mayweather Jr. next year in what Khan hopes would be a mega fight. Maidana doesn’t see Khan as a future anything, saying in an article at the telegraph.co.uk, “I’ve seen Khan fight. I’ve seen his victories. I think he’s overrated, over-hyped, and he may be fast, but it will take me one punch to change my world.”
