Khan answers the critic’s questions

Image: Khan answers the critic’s questionsBy Mark Hepplestall: In the early hours of Sunday morning the boxing public learned that Amir Khan successfully defended his WBA light welterweight title against the most dangerous puncher in the division, a fight that the Khan haters said would be the end of him. Luckily because it was such a good fight both fighters will have an increased stock and will be able to come again and fight for world titles. The big question was can Khan stay on his feet? Can Khan stop himself from being knocked out? Also lastly were does Khan go after the Maidana fight? (If he loses)

Khan Takes Brutal Shots From Maidana

Image: Khan Takes Brutal Shots From MaidanaBy Castillo Fuentes: In a possible fight of the year winner, Amir Khan proved that he had the heart, and more importantly the chin, to beat a big time slugger in Argentinean Marcos Maidana. Maidana was put on his seat in the first round, coming from a brutal body combination from the young Briton. They say there is no way the bell can save you, but it definitely saved Maidana there because he had fully recovered by round three. Had that knockdown come with 30 seconds left in round one, I think we would all be talking about Khan, not Maidana, having the most powerful hands in the light welterweight division.

Khan decisions Maidana: They Were Wrong About Amir

Image: Khan decisions Maidana: They Were Wrong About AmirBy Ricky Hale: They said he won’t make it out the early rounds. That his brittle jaw would crumble, his legs would turn to jelly and that would be that. And yet Amir Khan was magnificent last night. There has been some utter drivel written about Amir Khan (and some of it unfortunately on this very site.) To say you believe Khan may lose, to question about his chin is fair enough. But what has been written about Amir Khan has went way beyond that.

Marcos Maidana Robbed in Las Vegas!

Image: Marcos Maidana Robbed in Las Vegas!By Francisco Hernandez: In what has to be one of the most outlandish robberies of the decade Marcos “Chino” Maidana was robbed of a win last night at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas in his fight with Amir Khan. What we saw last night was Maidana like a farmer carrying a hatchet chasing a fluttering chicken around the ring. Initially it looked like Khan would slug it out with Maidana, as he dropped Maidana in the first round with a body shot, and the fight looked to become a slugfest.

Image: Khan defeats Maidana - Saturday night Khanage at the Mandalay Bay ResortBy Punching Publican: There are not enough superlatives to describe the epic battle that occurred last night between World Boxing Association (WBA) Light Welterweight Champion Amir Khan and WBA Interim Champion Marcos Rene Maidana. The atmosphere was electric and the crowd were fantastic. Even better when you consider that neither of the protagonists are Americans.

Khan-Maidana, Ortiz-Peterson: What Did Last Night Tell Us About the Light-Welterweight Division?

Image: Khan-Maidana, Ortiz-Peterson: What Did Last Night Tell Us About the Light-Welterweight Division?By Nick Bannister: What a night, and what a fight. Four of the top 10 light welterweights fight on the same card, and two of them engage in a definate fight of the year contender. If boxing keeps up the quality of both the matchups and the performances of the last 6 weeks, it certainly has a bright future. I feel genuiely privileged to have seen Khan-Maidana, and was certainly kept interested by Ortiz-Peterson. Having seen two excellent matchups, what do we now know about the fighters that we didn’t know before, and how has last night’s fights affected the overall picture at 140lbs?
