Image: Kell Brook wants Amir KhanBy Jon Johns: While Amir Khan defended his WBA light welterweight title against Marcos Maidana last Saturday, another star from Britain was getting one step closer to becoming a World Champion. Kell “Special K” Brook defended his WBO Inter-Continental title against Ghanaian Philip Kotey (21-6). The fight was aired on British pay per view on the same bill as the Khan-Maidana fight.

Khan says he could face Lamont Peterson next – News

Image: Khan says he could face Lamont Peterson next – NewsBy William Mackay: Instead of facing the dangerous Breidis Prescott or Marcos Maidana in badly needed rematches, World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight champion Amir Khan (24-1, 17 KO’s) says that he could be facing light welterweight contender Lamont Peterson (28-1-1, 14 KO’s) next in April 2011 in the UK. Frankly, that seems to be another one of Khan’s cherry picking fights because Peterson looked awful in his last fight against Victor Ortiz.

Khan will have even bigger problems when he moves up to welterweight

Image: Khan will have even bigger problems when he moves up to welterweightBy Scott Gilfoid: Without even having proven that he’s the best fighter at light welterweight, World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight champion Amir Khan (24-1, 17 KO’s) is talking about moving up in weight to compete at welterweight and fight the likes of Floyd Mayweather Jr. next year. Khan points to his 5’10” frame, saying that he has the size to compete against welterweights and be a factor in that division. I think if Khan does that he’s going to have his backside handed to him almost immediately.

Don’t be surprised if Maidana ruined Khan as a fighter

Image: Don't be surprised if Maidana ruined Khan as a fighterBy Scott Gilfoid: It was a terrible sight to see WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (24-1, 17 KO’s) looking like a skinny pinata in rounds 10 through 12 while power puncher Marcos Maidana swatted him with lefts and rights at close range. Khan looked like a clueless novice in there, grasping at Maidana’s neck, holding onto one arm at a time, turning his back on Maidana and shoving him really hard and not getting warned by referee Joe Cortez. Khan lucked out in that Cortez stepped in during crucial moments to separate Maidana from Khan and thus give Khan space to run around the ring. It slowed Maidana down enough for Khan to escape from getting knocked out.

Khan’s lack of power is going to be a huge problem for him

Image: Khan's lack of power is going to be a huge problem for himBy William Mackay: We’re beginning to see that WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (24-1, 17 KO’s) doesn’t really possess the kind of power needed at light welterweight for him to run over his opponents the same way he was able to do at lightweight. That wouldn’t be such a big issue if Khan had a granite chin like some of the tougher fighters in the light welterweight division. However, we saw pretty clearly last weekend when Khan was turned into a running spaghetti-legged fighter after getting clipped by Marcos Maidana that he doesn’t have the chin to take punishment for long stretches of time without getting staggered badly.

Amir Khan and the blind support he gets from his fans

Image: Amir Khan and the blind support he gets from his fansBy Malik Khan: This is article is written by a Muslim in Britain just to note this. A lot of Amir Khan’s fans don’t really know much of the sport, and I think the main reason Khan has a huge backing in Britain is because of the large numbers of Muslims and Pakistanis in Britain. I’m not saying don’t support our brother but don’t be so biased towards someone and discredit the other fighter like Marcos Maidana. I am writing this article after reading a lot of comments on Facebook to various websites.
