Shannon Briggs vs. Alexander Dimitrenko on May 21

dimitrenko434333By Scott Gilfoid: 44-year-old WBO heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs (59-6-1, 52 KOs) will supposedly be facing 33-year-old Ukrainian Alexander Dimitrenko (38-2, 24 KOs) on May 21 on the undercard of David Haye’s next fight against Arnold Gjergjaj (29-0, 21 KOs) at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Fightnews.com says Briggs told them that he’ll be fighting Dimitrenko on the card on May 21. This is going to be a tough fight for Briggs if this match-up turns out to be true, because Briggs is pretty old and hasn’t fought a live body in six years since his one-sided loss to Vitali Klitschko in 2010.

Dimitrenko is a very flawed heavyweight, as many people have seen, but he’s still not an easy out for someone as old as Briggs. Dimitrenko has only been beaten twice in his career in defeats to Eddie Chambers and Kubrat Pulev. Those guys weren’t old when they beat Dimitrenko.
Chambers fully outclassed and exposed Dimitrenko years ago on his own home turf

Luis Ortiz looking for a new opponent for March 5 fight

Image: Luis Ortiz looking for a new opponent for March 5 fightBy Tim Fletcher: Interim WBA heavyweight champion Luis Ortiz (24-0, 21 KOs) is looking for a new opponent for his March 5 fight on HBO after his previously scheduled opponent Alexander Dimitrenko (38-2, 24 KOs) reportedly pulled out of the fight.

According to ESPN, Dimitrenko wanted more money to take the fight after initially agreeing to the deal. You can’t blame the 6’7” Dimitrenko for wanting to be well paid for a fight against the hard hitting Cuban Ortiz, because this guy is not an easy fight.

Luis Ortiz to face Alexander Dimitrenko on March 5 on HBO

dimitrenko434333By Allan Fox: Interim WBA heavyweight champion Luis “The Real King Kong” Ortiz (24-0, 21 KOs) will be facing former heavyweight contender Alexander Dimitrenko (38-2, 24 KOs) on March 5 on HBO Boxing After Dark at the DC Armory in Washington, D.C, according to Dan Rafael.

Ortiz’s promoters at Golden Boy Promotions had problems finding an opponent for the 36-year-old Ortiz, as many heavyweights were said to have turned down a fight with them. The 33-year-old Dimitrenko was accepted by HBO, which is kind of surprising because Dimitrenko’s career has tanked since he was stopped in the 11th round four years ago by Kubrat Pulev in 2012.

Since that loss, Dimitrenko has fought mainly poor journeyman in beating Drazan Janjanin, Milos Dovedan, Zoltan Csala, Patryk Kowoll, Ivica Perkovic and Samir Kurtagic. The 6’7” Dimitrenko was a fighter that was groomed for a long time to be an eventual world champion, but he never panned out.

Dimitrenko helping Haye with sparring for Tyson Fury; Deontay Wilder to help too

dimitrenko434333By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight Deontay Wilder (29-0, 29 KO’s) is in the process of coming over to the UK to help former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (26-2, 24 KO’s) to get ready for his fight against unbeaten heavyweight contender Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s) for their clash on September 28th.

Haye, 32, is already being helped out by the big 6’7” Ukrainian Alexander Dimitrenko and the 6’8” Richard Towers with sparring. But adding Deontay, 6’7”, will really complete the camp for Haye, as the power and the speed that Deontay has going for him with far surpass anything than the slow, light-hitting Fury can bring to the ring in this fight.

Dimitrenko vs. Perkovic on Saturday night in Hamburg, Germany

dimitrenko4323By Allan Fox: #10 IBF heavyweight contender Alexander Dimitrenko (33-2, 21 KO’s) will be facing 38-year-old journeyman Ivica Perkovic (19-18, 14 KO’s) on Saturday night in a scheduled 8 round bout at the CU Arena, in Hamburg, Hamburg, Germany.

Dimitrenko, 30, weighed in at 251 lbs. on Friday at the weigh-in in Hamburg. His opponent Perkovic weighed in at a hefty 279 lbs., which is normal for him.

For some reason Dimitrenko’s management has decided to put him on a soft diet of weak opponents since he was stopped by unbeaten Kubrat Pulev in the 11th round last year in May. It doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense for Dimitrenko, a 12-year pro, to be fighting opposition in the class as Perkovic because Dimitrenko is capable of beating much better opposition than this.

Alexander Dimitrenko vs. Dzenan Hodzic on March 9th in Hamburg, Germany

dimitrenko46435By Allan Fox: #10 IBF heavyweight contender Alexander Dimitrenko (33-2, 21 KO’s) will be taking an easy tune-up fight against 46-year-old Dzenan Hodzic (4-0, 4 KO’s) in a scheduled 8 round bout next month on March 9th at the CU Arena in Hamburg, Germany.

Hodzic hasn’t fought in five years and it makes you wonder why the 6’7” Dimitrenko is being matched up against somebody as old as Hodzic and as inactive. Dimitrenko was stopped by heavyweight contender Kubrat Pulev by an 11th round knockout last year in May. Since then, Dimitrenko came back to defeat 36-year-old Samir Kurtagic (11-5, 8 KO’s) by an eight round unanimous decision.

This was supposed to have been an easy fight for the 6’7” Dimitrenko, but shockingly he was dropped by Kurtagic and had to battle hard to win tonight. Dimitrenko was just too easy to hit and didn’t look impressive.

Dimitrenko battles Pulev for vacant EBU heavyweight title on May 5th

Image: Dimitrenko battles Pulev for vacant EBU heavyweight title on May 5thBy Jim Dower: In one of your better heavyweight match-ups, undefeated Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev (15-0, 7 KO’s) will be fighting 6’7″ Ukrainian Alexander Dimitrenko (32-1, 21 KO’s) for the vacant European Boxing Union (EBU) heavyweight title on May 5th at the Messehalle in Erfurt, Germany. This is a great fight between two good but flawed big heavyweights. It’s difficult to pick a winner here because both fighters have a lot of positives and minuses that cancel each other out.
