By Jim Dower: WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis “Superman” Stevenson (29-1, 24 KOs) massacred a badly over-matched Andrzej Fonfara (29-5, 17 KOs) in a 2nd round stoppage in a pointless rematch on Saturday night on Showtime Championship Boxing at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada. Stevenson dropped the 29-year-old Fonfara late in the 1st round.

By Jim Dower: Adonis Stevenson (28-1, 23 KOs) and challenger Andrzej Fonfara (29-4, 17 KOs) both weighed in successfully for their light heavyweight clash this Saturday night on Showtime Championship Boxing at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada. Stevenson, 39, weighed in at 173.5 pounds. He’ll be defending his World Boxing Council light 175 lb. title. Up until Friday, Stevenson and Fonfara had seemed like old friends than two fighters about to face each in the ring. There was no animosity between them at all until today.

By Dan Ambrose: WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis “Superman” Stevenson (28-1, 23 KOs) has announced that he’ll be facing #7 WBC contender Andrzej Fonfara (29-4, 17 KOs) in a rematch on June 3 on Premier Boxing Champions in Canada. Stevenson won’t be facing #10 WBC Sean Monaghan like what previously the fight that was in the pipeline for the Canadian fighter. Fonfara, 29, is an upgrade to Monaghan, but not much of one though. Stevenson already beat Fonfara by a 12 round unanimous decision three years ago in May 2014 in beating him by the scores 116-109, 115-110 and 115-110.

The 35-year-old Monaghan (28-0, 17 KOs) is from Long Island, so the venue would be one that would bring his boxing fans out to see him.

The two fighters have until March 24 to come to an agreement in the negotiations otherwise a purse bid is scheduled on that date in Mexico City.

By Eric Baldwin: Floyd Mayweather Jr. says his fighter WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack (20-1-3, 12 KOs) will be moving up to light heavyweight for his next fight to challenger WBC 175lb champion Adonis Stevenson in June. Mayweather says that a rematch between Jack, 32, and IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale (23-1-1, 14 KOs) can take place, but it will need to take place in the light heavyweight division, because that’s the weight class Jack is moving up to.

DeGale and Jack fought to a 12 round draw last Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Mayweather is not happy about the draw, as he thought that his fighter Jack won the fight EASILY.

By Jim Dower: #2 WBC Joe Smith Jr. (23-1, 19 KOs) has seen his boxing stock rise to the top overnight since his upset 8th round knockout win over the old warhorse Bernard Hopkins (55-8-2, 32 KOs) last Saturday night at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

With the big victory over the 51-year-old Hopkins, Smith’s promoter Joe DeGuardia sees a title shot for him against WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis “Superman” Stevenson as a possibility. The only problem is the WBC organization has already slotted the winner of the February 24th fight between Eleider Alvarez and Lucian Bute to be the one that fights the 38-year-old Stevenson next.
