By Trevellyan: There has been much debate over the years regarding boxing records, the importance of being undefeated and the repercussions to fighters who suddenly lose there ‘0.’ Last week’s defeat of former WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) by the hands of Marcos Maidana (35-3, 3 KO’s) has brought this topic back to the lips of fans and questions have been asked. Has this ruined Broner’s career?
Simply the answer is no. Yes, Broner clearly lost the fight to Maidana. However, I believe some credit is due considering the easier options that could have been taken. I’m sure Broner will reflect on the loss and come back with hopefully a new attitude. Last Saturday’s bout reminded everyone that exciting fights can be made when fighters take the step to fight dangerous ranked fighters.
