Atlas believes McGregor will break the rules in a boxing match with Mayweather Jr.

By Nedu Obi: Teddy Atlas, once an assistant trainer (under Cus D’Amato) to former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson, has a feeling that if the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Conor McGregor boxing match comes to fruition, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion will bend the rules in his favor if he sees himself losing the fight.

“If you would ask me the question, Atlas said to espn.co.uk. “Why does – if McGregor really can’t win this fight standing up under those rules, and those would be the rules, then why would he take it? Because he would break the rules, he would come in there, he would break the rules, he would pin pin him, and then he would proclaim himself the king of the ring.”

Is there any relevancy to the Roy Jones Jr. vs. Bobby Gunn fight?

Image: Is there any relevancy to the Roy Jones Jr. vs. Bobby Gunn fight?

By Nedu Obi: There has been little to no media coverage of Roy Jones Jr. and Bobby Gunn’s tussle for the vacant WBF cruiserweight title taking place this Friday, Feb. 17, 2017 at the Chase Center, Wilmington, Delaware.

But is there any wonder why?

On the one hand, you have Jones, arguably one of the greatest fighters to have ever stepped into a ring, and without a doubt, the best boxer of his era. At the height of his powers, Jones, who turned 48 a month ago, was untouchable. Throughout the early 90’s, and up until the early 2000’s, he was king of the hill.

By Nedu Obi: With rumors of a mega-boxing match between boxing great Floyd Mayweather Jr. and UFC game changer Conor McGregor spreading like wild fire around the media stratosphere, it was only a matter of time before the fact or fiction drama was put to bed, or earnestly admitted.

Better yet, someone had to man up and tell the masses what time it was – step forward retired former five-divisional boxing champ and pound-for-pound kingpin Mayweather.

Image: Who is the no. 1 boxer in the world at the moment?

By Nedu Obi: There has been much debate regards who is the best boxer on the planet; some say Roman González, while others will swear Andre Ward has that accolade on lockdown, and the debate rages on. However, in this respect, I would like your candid opinion on who is today’s boxing numero uno.

So, for you guys and girls who actually keep the sport afloat today, viz. attending boxing events, PPV/merchandise purchases etc, this is your chance choose your top dog, and send the official pound-for-pound rankings into free fall.

Chris Eubank Jr. Joins Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Boxing’s Elite after Capturing IBO Super Middleweight Title

By Nedu Obi: On Saturday night at the Olympia, London, England, Chris Eubank Jr. wrested the IBO super middleweight strap from the game Aussie Renold Quinlan in stopping him in the 10th round – and in doing so, etched his name alongside such boxing greats as Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Following an eight month stint of pugilistic inactivity, Chris Eubank won his first world title by forcing the referee to call a halt to proceedings in the tenth round of his first world championship bout, after a barrage of punches went unanswered from Quinlan.

Floyd Mayweather Jr: Runner or Boxing Genius?

Floyd Mayweather JrBy Nedu Obi: As today marks the 39th birthday of Floyd Joy Mayweather Jr., I thought it only fitting to indulge you in a debate that has raged on for quite a while: Runner or Boxing Genius?

Albeit the five-divisional world titlist is almost six months removed from retirement; enjoying the fruits of his hard-earned labor, that debate still continues to clamorously rage on.

Why Pacquiao’s Comments will have a Positive Effect on the Gay Community

pac63By Nedu Obi: Recently, eight-division world boxing champ and Filipino congressman Manny Pacquiao, scheduled to meet Timothy Bradley Jr. in a rubber match on April 9, took time out from his training session to participate in a political Q&A TV debate in his native Philippines. One of the questions raised, surrounded homosexual relationships. What ensued was a vitriolic homophobic rant; a slur if you will.

“It’s common sense,” the eight times world champion, who later apologized, said. “Do you see animals mating with the same sex? Animals are better because they can distinguish male from female. If men mate with men and women mate with women they are worse than animals.”

Suffice it to say, his comments didn’t go down too well, as a matter of fact, lead balloon would be an appropriate phrase; NIKE subsequently terminated his lucrative contract, and even his long-time promoter Bob Arum had strong words for the 37-year-old.

Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder and the Heavyweight Divisional Mayhem

Image: Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder and the Heavyweight Divisional MayhemBy Nedu Obi: With Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder at the helm—the heavyweight division is in utter disarray; pure mayhem—you gotta Love it though. Not since the times of Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis et al., has the class of concussive-hitters been the talk of the town.

For years now, save for the cruiserweight and light heavyweight divisions, every other division below has held sway over the art termed the Sweet Science, whilst the once eminent heavyweight division more or less, languished in obscurity; riding shotgun . Then out of the blue, I mean, this is really some out of the blue business we’re talking about here, they’re back with a vengeance—ready to set their mark and enforce it.

Last Chance Saloon for Three-Time Loser George Groves

groves111(Photo Credit: Lawrence Lustig) By Nedu Obi: George Groves heads into Saturday night’s fisticuffs with Andrea Di Luisa, fully aware he teeters on the precipice of world super-middleweight championship irrelevance. Without a doubt, it’s the last chance saloon for one of Britain’s most promising prizefighters.

To say the stakes are high would be an understatement bordering on the preposterous — anything save for a scintillating performance, and it’s A B C Ya — Bye! Gatekeeper status beckons.
