Khan still hasn’t done enough to get Mayweather fight

khan67By Donnell Young: Since Floyd Mayweather Jr’s win over Marcos Maidana on May 3rd, I have read several articles about Amir Khan (29-3, 19 KO’s) and his worthiness to be awarded a fight against Mayweather.  What gives him the audacity to say foolish things like, “Floyd is ducking me.”  The last time I checked, Khan was an overrated fighter living off of the potential he showed 2-3 years ago.  I personally thought he could be a special fighter.

After watching him being misguided by former trainer Freddie Roach, my thoughts quickly changed.  Then Khan switched trainers and began working with Virgil Hunter in an effort to reclaim his status as one of the best young fighters around.  After watching his few fights under Hunter’s direction, it’s becoming quite clear to me that Khan just doesn’t have “it.”

When will we see Andre Ward again?

ward324By Donnell Young: Andre Ward was no doubt head and shoulders above the rest of the competition in the Super Six Tournament.  Watching him do away with all comers in this tournament only left me with one thought.  Was the Super Six Tournament the best thing for his career?  Let’s look at the facts.

Ward defeated all of the “big names” in his division during the tournament leaving him with few options for fights that the public would really want to see.  During the tournament, the most intriguing fight for him may have been the bout against Andre Dirrell which never took place because of the injury that Dirrell suffered in his previous fight with Arthur Abraham.

Why do people think Pacquiao will lose to Rios?

pac88By Donnell Young: Let me begin this article with one statement that is straight to the point. Manny Pacquiao is a higher level of fighter than Brandon Rios. Bob Arum has done a wonderful job of matching Manny with an opponent that will make him look like the Manny of old.

The fighter that we all tuned in to see demolish the guy fighting out of the opposite corner. Speaking of which, I am not so sure that Manny is as washed up as so many seem to believe. He was clearly robbed of a decision against Timothy Bradley so Bob Arum could hopefully use Bradley as his next cash cow.

Please show Floyd Mayweather Jr. some respect!

floyd32By Donnell Young: I know that many of the Floyd Mayweather Jr. “haters” will not like this article, but I am a realist and must call it how I see it. First of all, the most important principle in the sport of boxing is to hit and not be hit. If there is anyone in the history of the sport that does it better than Mayweather Jr and still racks up the victories, I haven’t seen or heard of him.

The skill with which Mayweather dismantles his opponents is truly one of a kind. Many people like to criticize the opponents that Mayweather steps into the ring with, but most of the time it is fueled by hypocrisy and hatred. I say this because the same people who talk down on him after the fight are the same ones that say things before the fight like, “this guy is going to beat Floyd,” or “This will be the toughest test of his career.”

Is the Welterweight Division the Best Place for Adrien Broner?

broner55By Donnell Young: Despite all of his antics and questionable behavior, there is no denying that Adrien Broner has the potential to be a really good, if not great, fighter.  However, there are some questions about his approach to the craft of boxing and his dedication to the sport.

There is no doubt that seeing him destroy fighters like Gavin Rees, Antonio Demarco, Vicente Escebedo, Jason Litzau and Eloy Perez delivered excitement.  These were fighters, for the most part, that were smaller than Broner and he was able to walk through the best shots they had to give and deliver extreme punishment of his own.

Needless to say, his speed and punching power were entirely too much for any of these guys to handle and they all were stopped.  Though Broner looked spectacular in each win, the pedigree of these fighters can easily be belittled.
