Froch-Golovkin is a possibility for the fall

froch83By Daven: With Carl Froch’s next fight, at last seemingly on the brink of completion, and Gennady Golovkin set to fight four times this year, it made sense to plot a potential bout between these two warriors. Assuming Froch emerges victorious against an over-matched Chavez Jr, and his desire to fight on remains, an encounter with GGG could be enticing. Abel Sanchez enthusiastically stated to the media that his fighter will be staying active yet again. This pleases intelligent boxing fans who’re delighted to see such a crowd-pleaser box regularly.

After viewing Froch’s recent interview with Paul Dempsey, I got the impression he is well aware of Chavez Jr’s flaws. And being the proud man he is, this will affect him. He’ll not want to retire after beating an ill-disciplined fighter such as Julio. Moreover, Carl will be once more persuaded into giving Britain as well as HBO the fight we want. Obviously that is one involving the Kazakh sensation GGG.

How can Mayweather turn down $300 million?

floyd6By Daven: Promoter Bob Arum is currently working on ensuring the proposed mega bout between Mannny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr airs on subscription television in China.

China has a population of over 1 billion people and it’s a place where boxing is really becoming popular, this should not be snuffed at. Reports suggest $5 of each buy will go Arum, meaning Floyd particularly will be receiving interest for finally accepting the fight we all want to see.

British boxing in 2015

By Daven: As a British boxing fan, I accept that certain fights have to be on PPV. And that is fine, however, I’m not prepared like most of you to fork out on 5-6 events annually. Money isn’t the principal issue, rather it’s the principle.

Khan and Brook, the tale of 2 opposites

brook5666By Daven: For bordering on three years now Kell Brook and Eddie Hearn have been calling out Amir Khan, while feasting on the blood of second and even third tier fighters. With Brook having problems earlier in the year, one wonders how long he’ll remain a ‘champion.’

I use the term because he’s beaten nobody to warrant such a title, if anything his bout with Porter was a draw, not a 117-11 victory. Amir ‘King’ Khan is trying to establish a solid fan base in America right now and doesn’t feel the need to fight in little old Sheffield in contrast to Brook.

Mayweather owes his disenfranchised forefathers

by Daven: In this article I will outline the struggles of African-American fighters since the nineteenth century. Since most African-Americans originated from the south, they had to live under the tyranny of Jim Crow, the laws which basically preserved the elite position of whites in post slavery society. Sadly the laws extended into boxing and ensured blacks were not given the same opportunities. Ultimately I seek to argue that Floyd Mayweather owes these guys big time and by agreeing to face Pacquiao, helps to put the plight of the disenfranchised at the back of our minds. If he refuses the fight he’s letting all the abused down because they would’ve killed for the exposure and recognition he continues to get.

Anthony Joshua vs Kevin Johnson?

joshua22by Daven: Prior to Saturday’s encounter with Michael Sprott, there was much speculation suggesting Anthony Joshua would soon be facing Kevin Johnson on January 31. These rumours have proven to be true as AJ and Eddie Hearn spoke of the plan two nights ago. The central concern for fighter and promoter in this case, is to try to find an opponent who can take Joshua into the second half of a fight without posing any real threat. Johnson seems to fit the bill then.

It was only six months ago Johnson went the full 12 with Chisora in a relatively competitive fight for the first 7 rounds. Now Chisora is rated in the top 10 by all 4 governing bodies so Johnson sticking around to the end has obviously impressed Eddie. Whilst Joshua should be expected to emerge victorious owing to Johnson’s declining physical condition, it’s not guaranteed to be easy.

Saunders in tough against Eubank Jr

saunders56235By Daven: Earlier today, a watershed moment transpired, it marked the first direct verbal spar between Billy Joe Saunders and Chris Eubank Jr. It happened at the Talk-sport Studio. In essence Saunders began frantically berating his opponent, without allowing a retort, he aggressively demanded that Chris comply with his lurid stipulation that the loser pay out £100,000.

Why does a professional fighter feel the need to make such a crude request? Billy is being handsomely paid to fight and he should focus on that alone. However, rather than rising to the bait, Chris sensibly laughed off the ignorant remarks and referred to Billy as a “kid” who is out of his depth.

James DeGale, going nowhere fast.

degale66By Daven: After comprehensively defeating Brandon Gonzales in arguably the most relevant bout of his career since the controversial encounter with George Groves, many assumed James “Chunky” DeGale would consequently vie for the IBF title within the year. Actually, this was explicitly promised by Eddie Hearn on a public platform. We were led to believe that DeGale joined Matchroom for the purpose of first raising his profile and second to obtain a world title fight.

To his credit, “Chunky” stuck to his end of the bargain by conquering the undefeated yet jet-lagged Gonzales in an apparent “world-title eliminator” in front of 80,000 spectators. However Eddie has not delivered the promised title fight. Instead placing James in an additional eliminator. DeGale is putting on a brave face publicly, suggesting Froch is too afraid to fight him. To those of us in the loop, it is obvious Froch is not afraid of James at all. Sadly, the “Cobra” not unlike thousands of boxing enthusiasts, simply regards Degale as a fringe contender, even though he looked impressive last time out.

Bellew-Cleverly II is not a 50-50 fight

bellew8By Daven: Six months ago Tony Bellew and Nathan Cleverly were licking their wounds after being outclassed by the dominant duo of Adonis Stevenson and Sergey Kovalev. Now both men are coming off two straight stoppage victories at a much more dangerous weight division.

Eddie Hearn has somehow managed to quickly resurrect two careers which six months ago were in ruins. Nobody really gave either man any hope of winning a world title yet now there is a scenario that at least one could fight for such honours in early 2015.
