If Groves wins, who will he fight next?

By Daven: This article examines what the future could hold for George Groves (19-, 15 KO’s) should he win on Saturday night at Wembley Stadium in London, UK. Obviously he has many more options than IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (32-2, 23 KO’s) owing to the fact Groves is still at a young age thus he doesn’t need a defining a fight or a final payday. Thus he’ll be less picky regarding his next opponent in contrast to Froch.

Pacquiao could potentially be going up against the winner of Cotto-Martinez bout.

pac7848By Daven: Following his dominant victory over Tim Bradley in April, there has been many names touted around in regards to Manny Pacquiao’s next opponent. The usual suspects such as Marquez, Alvarado, Ruslan Provodnikov and Mikey Garcia have all been floated. However over the weekend a source close to Bob Arum leaked the names of Miguel Cotto and Sergio Martinez. If the fight was to take place it would be for the WBC middleweight championship, amazingly this would present Manny the chance of acquiring a ninth divisional world title belt.

Although, as of now nothing has been finalized, a fight featuring Pacquiao-Martinez or a rematch with Cotto would be a big seller. Moreover it would be truly fascinating to see, especially if it ends up being Martinez-Pacquiao owing to Sergio’s far superior height in contrast to Pacquiao. Naturally any potential fight for the WBC belt for Manny would have to be at a catch-weight of around 155lbs.

Will Groves’ stamina issues come into play against Froch in their rematch?

groves5778By Daven: Recently it emerged that George Groves (19-1, 15 KO’s) has been taking two days off a week for his upcoming fight against IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (32-2, 23 KO’s) on May 31ast at the Wembley Stadium in London, UK. This is absolutely staggering news. He’s supposed to be in his youth and has little history of injury problems yet he can’t work a full schedule? Really shocking to hear if I’m being frank.

Whilst Froch is working in the Rob’s gym in Sheffield Monday-Friday and running whilst back in Nottingham on weekends, Saint George Groves is prancing around London kissing babies and signing autographs for old ladies. Oh yeah he also expends his energy on Twitter abusing Froch, he did the same thing last time and that worked out well didn’t it?

The top 5 British candidates to soon become world champions

groves221By Daven: In essence, British boxing is enduring testing times. Nathan Cleverly and Jamie McDonnell both lost their world titles last year , albeit through differing circumstances. At the start of 2014 Ricky Burns was only one of four world champions to hail from the United Kingdom, yet he was comprehensively defeated back in March.

That only leaves Carl Froch, Stuart Hall and Scott Quigg flying the flag for the Brits. With all the doom and gloom, my article will attempt to allay the idea that the trend of losing titles will continue. The following five British fighters are the most likely in my view to become world champions; that doesn’t mean I necessarily believe they will achieve the status of champion, I am merely saying they have more chance than all the other British fighters.

DeGale leaves Hennessy Sports

degale5By Daven: Earlier this evening James DeGale raised eyebrows by confirming on twitter that he’d terminated his promotional deal with big Mick Hennessy. If this news had broken last month, or even last week, there wouldn’t have been too much shock considering the frustration Chunky has endured; however the fact that Hennessy has just secured James the mandatory position for the WBC super- middleweight championship adds mystery to the situation.

After all it was only four days ago that the WBC confirmed DeGale’s shot at Sakio Bika after the long delay. No doubt James benefited from the fact that Julio Chavez Jr who had been touted as the mandatory, was  instead in negotiations with team Gennady Golovkin for a bout in the summer.

Are boxing fans clueless about the sport?

By Daven: Yesterday I completed a very ambitious article which outlined my top 15 P4P fighters of all time. Instead of garnering serious discourse and appreciation, I had to read ridiculous comments on the whole about how I was disrespecting the likes of Floyd Mayweather Jr and Roy Jones Jr, yet at the beginning of my article I clearly stated that active fighters were not considered for the list due the fact their legacies are not yet completed. How ignorant can people actually be to say I ignored Floyd when I addressed the issue as bluntly as possible?

The greatest 15 boxers, pound 4 pound of all time

robinson464633By Daven: Recently there was a post on this website, featuring the top ten greatest Mexican fighters to ever set foot inside a boxing ring. I found the discussion, especially from the Facebook users to be extremely intriguing. In essence it made me want to be bolder and evaluate the top 15 of all time. I thought doing a top 10 would be too easy hence why I’m doing overtime. Also I will only consider retired fighters, so active fighters are a no go area simply because their legacies are yet to be finalized.

First things first allow me to qualify my parameters. When I hear the term best “P4p” I immediately comprehend it to mean that if all the fighters were the same size yet had their own skill sets, then which skill set was the most impressive? Also I have to take into account the level of competition one has faced; the win loss record is not important to me at all.

Five exciting welterweight bouts that can happen in 2014

maidana7895By Daven: We all know how talent stacked the 147 lb division currently is. In fact one could argue that the welterweight division has been the premier division in boxing throughout the last seventy years. Sugar Ray Robinson and Henry Armstrong are widely regarded as the two greatest boxers of all time and are renowned for their dominance at welterweight. These men went on to capture world titles at multiple weight class hence establishing a precedent for the great boxers that followed them.

Likewise Roberto Duran and Sugar Ray Leonard went on to accomplish similar things in the 1980s. Again these two individuals are considered as top 10 P4P fighters. All in all the welterweight division has been exciting for those who appreciate boxing history. This article will outline 5 fights that will consolidate the 147lb division as the best around.

Let’s get real folks, Thurman is nowhere near ready for Floyd Mayweather

thurman11By Daven: All over the internet I read people genuinely expressing their desire to see Keith Thurman go one on one with the best active fighter around today. The very notion that Thurman could collide with Money May in September is ludicrous for several reasons but I will cite the three major reasons in my article.

First of all Thurman has a mediocre following at best. Only die hard boxing fans especially from the United States and the United Kingdom are aware of his existence as well as talents. One could be the greatest technician or knock-out artist in the game but without  any mainstream interest you’re simply expendable.

Is it really in Bellew’s best interest to fight Huck this year?

huck453By Daven: For those who missed it, Tony the “bomber” Bellew emerged victorious on Saturday night against Valery Brudov. Barring one round which was the seventh the Liverpool native put in a measured performance. Moreover the power that had abandoned him at Light-heavyweight has seemingly returned. Despite securing two knock downs and then the knockout in the final round, it’s integral Bellew gets at least two fights in before going for a world title.

After the fight Eddie Hearn called out Marco huck who is widely regarded as the best cruiserwight on the planet. His most notable wins are over Afalobi who is already being avoided by Bellew so how Matchroom think Bellew is ready to fight somebody like Huck is beyond me. Yes, I am aware it would be for a world title but Huck’s arsenal is too skilful for Bellew meaning Bellew cannot outbox him and moreover Huck has a very good chin so Tony’s apparent power will not be a factor.
