By BN: Boxing under the Queensberry rules has existed for over a century and has been a popular sport all over the world for quite some time. Statistically the USA, Mexico and Puerto Rico have produced the most world boxing champions in all of history. The USA has an astonishing over 400 world champions produced in its rich boxing history.

Mexico is the only country who can match half of what the USA has boasting over 200 world champions in its history, while having produced a champion in each weight division except Heavyweight and Super Middleweight. Puerto Rico on the other hand is not near in quantity as the USA and Mexico but has produced the most world champions PER CAPITA a number of 73 champions.

Japan has also produced 73 world boxing champions, but hasn’t had the popularity the USA, Mexico and Puerto Rico boast. Next come the British having champions around the 55-60 range. Many people forget the Queensberry rules originated in the UK and countries soon followed the idea. So what about today? What nations are the top dogs?

Currently as we speak the UK has 11 world champions, and NO “interim” and WBA “regular” titles are not the full titles and aren’t counted especially not the WBA “regular” title. But yes the UK is #1 in numbers current champions. Next comes Japan with 8 world champions. South of 130 pounds the Japanese are stacked with very good fighters.

Mexico, the USA and Russia all boast 5 current champions and countries like Puerto Rico, Cuba, Philippines, Thailand, Ukraine, and Dominican Republic all have 3 or less in boxing champions. Just last year it was the USA with the most champions, now the tables have turned over to the British/Europeans over the Americas in general which includes the USA, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Canada, and all of south America.
