Will Cotto or Canelo fight Golovkin next?

golovkin45By Cameron Gillon: Last night at Madison Square Garden in New York City America, power punching Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin (30-0, 27 KOs) made short work of Australia’s Daniel Geale (30-3, 16 KOs) to retain his WBA and IBO middleweight world titles in a 3rd round knockout. I myself made a prediction of a 8th or 9th round KO for Golovkin.

I don’t think many thought he would win the fight that quickly as some thought that Geale was a bit of a step up to the type of opposition Golovkin has faced, but it’s not 16 fights in a row that Gennady Golovkin has won by the way of knockout or a referee stopping the fight taking the run all the way back to 2009. Straight after the win Golovkin was interviews by HBO commentator Max Kellerman and when asked who he would like to face next, he said he would like a unification fight against the other champions in Peter Quillin, Sam Soliman or Miguel Cotto but the name that stood out was Cotto.

Pacquiao will look like a cherry picker if he faces Algieri next

pac7848By Cameron Gillon: Just as everyone thought Bob Arum couldn’t get any worse to the boxing business, he once again pulls a controversial stunt by offering WBO light welterweight champion Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) the chance to be Manny Pacquiao’s next opponent on November 22nd.

This to me is the worst possible fight for Pacquiao and his fans, for years Pacquiao’s fans have unloaded bombs on Mayweather fans on how Floyd cherry picks his opponents to keep his 0 and unbeaten record in toe, and how he ducks all top fighters that call him out.

Keith Thurman: Is he the real deal or not?

thurman32222By Cameron Gillon: Keith “One Time” Thurman is an undefeated young fighter coming through the welterweight ranks and currently holds down the interim WBA welterweight title.

Thurman has won 23 fights with 21 coming by way of knockout, which is an outstanding knockout ratio. His most notable wins came against Jesus Soto Karass and Julio Diaz in his last two previous fights and he both knocked them out. Thurman certainly doesn’t lack confidence as we always see in his interviews, press conferences and post-fight interviews.

Mikkel Kessler returning to the ring, what do you expect ?

kessler#8By Cameron Gillon: Four time super middleweight world champion Mikkel Kessler has recently said that he would like to return to the ring. The last time we saw him in the ring was in May 2013 against WBA and IBF world champion Carl Froch at the O2 arena London.

The fight was a unification fight where Kessler was then the WBA champion and Froch was the IBF world champion. Carl Froch won the fight on points in what a all out war. Let’s not forget that Mikkel Kessler won the first fight in Denmark as part of the super six tournament eventually won by American Andre Ward. This left the two fighters with one win a piece.

Would a rematch between Saul Alvarez and Mayweather hurt Canelo’s career ?

canelo6767By Cameron Gillon: There has been much talk about Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KO’s) potentially working with Golden Boy Promotions once more if it is to make a deal for a rematch with Mexican star Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez (43-1-1, 31 KO’s). To me this fight doesn’t make much sense for it to happen, especially after Floyd exposed Canelo in September of 2013, some people could argue that Alvarez faced the pound for pound king to early in his career.

This I agree with, I think Canelo didn’t face good enough opposition to get a fight with Mayweather. Canelo has beaten the likes of Shane Mosley, Matthew Hatton, Austin Trout, Carlos Baldomir and Josesito Lopez, But you can argue also that Austin Trout beat Canelo in a close fight, many thought Trout won that fight, it was of course after this bout that Canelo then went on to face Mayweather and lost. However, I think Canelo should of faced Floyd in 2014 or 2015 to really make a better fight of it.

Where does Miguel Cotto and Sergio Martinez go now ?

martinez777425689(Photo credit: Naoki Fakuda) By Cameron Gillon: After beating the odds last Saturday night at MSG in New York against the WBC and Ring Magazine Middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (51-3-2, 28 KO’s), the question now is where does Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32 KO’s) go now and who should he fight in his next bout? I was one of the people that thought Sergio Martinez would emerge victorious last night but obviously I was wrong.

I thought Cotto wouldn’t have enough to beat Sergio, but how he proved me and the other Martinez fans wrong. He controlled the fight from the first punch landed, and no one would of expected him to put Martinez down three times in the 1st round. From then on Martinez was a sitting duck, his legs had gone from the first knockdown and Cotto knew that, and to Sergio Martinez’s credit, he stuck in there and put a hell of a effort up to win the fight despite being in a terrible state.
